Title: How many of you guys fish with the Grandt rods?
Post by: Mike S. on November 18, 2009, 07:34:51 PM
I am thinking about buying one.  I really would like to hear your opinions on them.  I have never bought an expensive rod.  I like the lightning rods alot, and have a KVD signature series rod, and several others.  I want to get a 7 foot medium action spinning rod for fishing plastics.  Sooooooo, what do you guys think?  Also, will there be a Grandt rep at the fishing show in Grand Rapids this year?

I've bought 4 so far. Wags helped me pick some of them out at the Novi show last year. I posted before on how great a rod the 7' spinnerbait rod is C10 casting. I have a 7 1/2 foot spinning rod he picked out for me a little lighter for things like drop shotting, but I use it for tubes too. I have a nice flipping stick and a light casting rod.

Wags could recommend the right one to you if you tell him what you want it for. You can save money getting them at the shows.

They do not have their 2010 shows up yet though I expect them at Novi. Pretty sure Jim said he'd see me there. Wags might know their schedule now.

Talked to Wag yesterday about just that subject. He said Grandt would be at Novi. I plan to buy at least a couple. Heard great things about them. I too have never bought expensive rods. Lost so many fish this year to light bites, figure its about time.

You'll save a lot of money at the show. They have a huge variety of premium rods.

Grandt Rods will be at Novi this year. I believe the dates are Jan 7-11.

I would be happy to assist in selecting the correct rod for the application. I have fished Grandt exclusively for 5 years now. Great rods with a geat warranty.

While we wait for the show that is right around the corner to arrive, feel free to check out my Rods by Application post here - http://www.greatlakesbass.com/forum/index.php?topic=3729.0

If the weather don't get nasty I'll see you there. I need that spinnerbait rod Dan was telling me about. The brand I normally use don't have a rod for spinnerbaits that I really like.

I have never tried one.  I would maybe like to try a cranking rod or maybe even a spinnerbait/topwater rod.  I thought they were kind of expensive for what they were.  Just an opinion.  Are they made in the U.S.?  They seemed to be of good quality.  What kind of warranty do they carry.  I bought a rod from the Teton booth last year.  I have about three or four of those rods.  I broke one on St. Clair this past season when setting the hook on a big fish.  I managed to land the fish, but more importantly they replaced it no questions asked.  I think a good warranty adds to the quality of the rod.  There are always going to be warranty and quality issues no matter the product.  The idea is to minimize warranty while increasing quality.  I am always open to trying new rods and stuff.    ;)

Grandt Rods are made in the US by Grandt Industries - Jim Grandt. Most of their rods - the ones we would use - have an unconditional lifetime warranty (http://www.grandtrods.com/grandtrods_warranty.htm) (other than freight/airline breakage or blatant abuse - no sword fights amongst the kids).

Just send a check for return shipping - the rate is $25 at the moment, but check their web site (http://www.grandtrods.com/) first if necessary) or see them at an outdoor show across the Midwest including the Novi Ultimate Fishing Show January 7 - 10, 2010 at the Rock Financial Showplace in Novi Michigan.

Well, guess I'm going to have to give them a shot.  I was going to buy a Loomis, or something along those lines, and just figured that I maybe should try one of the Grandt rods because they are a sponsor on this site.  If I like it, which Dan is pretty convincing that I will, I definitely will buy more.  So, Madwags, are you guys going to be at the Grand Rapids fishing show?

Unfortunately not. Novi is the only Michigan show this year. If you can not make the show let me know. We can make arrangements to help you out. Maybe I can drive the rods to Dan and he can drive them to you. ;D

Made in the USA is good.  Lifetime warranty is good.  I may have to try one.  Where is Grandt Industries located??  Is this a Michigan based company??  Not only is "Made in The USA" a good thing but being a Michigan based company makes it better.

I am going to the show.  I put in vacation today for that Friday, just incase they try to make us work that weekend.  It just so happens to be the weekend of my b-day, too.  We are going to get a hotel for Saturday night, so the kids can swim and enjoy themselves as well.  Only about a 3 hour drive, and I think the family will enjoy it.  I'm excited.  I can get the wife to buy me a new rod, because it's my birthday!  Perfect timing.

Besides being your birthday that weekend, is there any secret to getting your wife to buy you a new rod???  I would like that to happen for me as I need to know your secret so I can get my wife to buy me a new rod..............without it being my birthday!!!   :o

Thanks Dan.  I am excited.  I did the math, and since I was going to buy 1 rod myself, I can get my wife to buy me 1 rod, that means I get 2 rods.  SWEET!

Dan wanted me to make sure that all the GLB members understand the Grandt Rods show pricing.
The show pricing is significantly less than the retail price as shown on the Grandt Rods Web Site. The real benefit of purchasing a rod at the show is that your are entered into the customer database at the reduced price struture and you will never pay retail again.
So you get wholesale pricing on a fishing rod that you only need purchase one time due to the Unconditional Lifetime Warranty. This warranty covers any breakage, accidental or otherwise, for the life of the rod. You cover the postage and we cover the rod or just bring it into the show and exchange the broken rod for a new one.
Retail price on an All American Series 7' spinning rod is $157.00
Your price at the show and any future orders is $109.00
That's a 30% savings on average.
Purchasing one rod at the show, lowers the price of every rod in the catalog for future purchases.
Get on down to Novi and see the awesome display of Grandt Rods, the biggest in the show and the official Fishing Rod of GreatLakesBass.com

Makes for some real incentive to make that show and check out the large assortment of rods and actions to choose from. If you're looking for a great Great Lakes spinnerbait rod, don't forget to check out the C10.

MadWags aka Dave, will you be there every day?

Once I am in the database, can I show up in Arlington Heights at the home office and purchase rods there for the discounted price??  I make many trips to the Chicagoland area as my sister-in-law lives in Lake-In-The-Hills.  Her sons, my nephews love to fish with their Uncle.  I have become their favorite Uncle because I take them fishing.  When I go visit them in the summer, I drag the boat there and we fish the Fox Chain as well as other lakes in the local area.  I have also been out on Lake Michigan fishing around the Navy Pier and up the Chicago River as well as the Calumet River.  Great fishing around that area.........any way, back to Grandt Rods........I will have to try one.

I believe the pricing for All American Series Rods will be.

4'6" & 5' rods - 89.00
5'6" & 6' rods - 99.00
6'6" & 7' rods - 109.00

Other larger rods including flippin sticks and muskie rods range from 119.00 to 129.00
