Title: Other hobbies?
Post by: Mike S. on November 03, 2009, 07:08:17 PM
Anybody on here into other hobbies?  Drag racing, quads, sleds, bikes?  I will take pics of my toys and post them.  How about you?

Ok, here's a couple of my toys.  01 Arctic Cat ZR800 Limited Edition has a D&D 3 degree timing key, D&D y-pipe, clutched, V-force 3 reeds, and 192 Woody's studs.  08 Yamaha YFZ 450 has a  3mm stroker crank, custom intake, cam mod, and a +4 swingarm, and a DrD pipe.  08 Raptor 250 is my son's, and has a K&N filter and a GYTR pipe.  You can also see my old Bass Tracker TX17 with a 40 Mariner.  ON it's way down the road in the spring.....not big enough, or fast enough.

My first hobby is fishing of course.  After that I'd say my second favorite hobby is shopping and buying fishing gear!!

I think it is nice that we live in a State with so many outdoors opportunities.  When my bass season ends, it seems there are a lot of steelhead in the rivers until the end of April when I start chasing bass again.  In between I can sit in a deer stand or ice fishing shanty and think about bass fishing.

I used to have hobbies when i was single.  Now that i am married with a lil one, i pretty much just fish and play the occasional poker tournament.  I do like to make jigs and soft plastic baits tho.  even tho it is a business, i still enjoy doing it so i guess it doubles as a hobby.  Oh, and i like watching Deadwood!

building fishign rods and duck hunting.  i'd say drinking beer, but thats not so much a hobby as it is a way of life.

i do software development/websites for a living so if i do that on the side i still call it work. I actually don't like computers all that much - rather be outside i guess :)

Skiing and golfing for me.  Try to get out west once a year and take a "golf" trip with the guys in the summer.  However they always turn into a beer drinking vacation!

I couldn't afford hobbies until I had a wife and kids.  Too busy drinking.  We just had number 3 two weeks ago.  once I settled down, I got all kinds of toys and hobbies.  I will say, though, I spend more time fishing than anything.

That is awesome!  I used to drag race.  I had a 72 Nova.  It went in the 11's with a 355, then I built a wicked 408 smallblock for it.  That motor dynoed just shy of 600 horses, and was built for the 250 horse nitrous cheater kit that I had.  When gas prices went to 4 bucks a gallon plus, I sold my 24 foot enclosed trailer, then I sold the car, then I sold the motor.  That hobby with 3 kids and a wife just doesn't work.

Fishing is my first and foremost hobby as well as my passion.  Other hobbies include watching my son play soccer.  He is an awesome player at 9 years old and has the potential for being great.  I hope he makes it.  I enjoy watching him play as much as I do fishing for bass.  I guess you could say that my 2nd passion is watching him play.  He has a real love for the game and as I never knew much about the sport growing up, he has taught me a lot.  The last couple of years I have coached his indoor team.  This is the first indoor season that I am not coaching.  I put him on a club that has excellent trainers.  He has improved every time he steps out on a soccer field.

Other hobbies include computers.  I fix them on the side to make extra cash.  At work that is what I do for a paycheck so why not do it on the side.  I know a lot of other computer repair do gouge their customers as I have seen it more times than not.  I also build them as a hobby to use as well as sell.  Right now I am using a computer I built.  I pride myself on building faster computers than what you can buy retail.

Through the winter months I also enjoy playing video games.  I own a Wii and Playstation 3.  I play the hunting, fishing, and sports games.  I am not much for the other games.  Mostly football, baseball, hockey, basketball, etc.  Also electric slot cars.  I usually break them out after the boat is winterized.  My son and I spend hours racing.  Drives the wife crazy.  By the time spring rolls around, she wants me out of the house fishing.  See how that works.  It's a blast.

Hey Big Dog, have you played the new Bass Pro Shops game yet for the Wii?  I like it.  It's more fun to me than the Rapala fishing frenzy 09 for the PS3.  I was so excited to get that, and was very disappointed when I got to play it.  But, Strike is ok.  It is a pain to use the rod controller that comes with it, though.  If you haven't played it, you should give it a shot.  I personally am waiting for snow, and then SPRING!

I tried to find it online. Must be pretty new or not indexed on their site yet. I'm sure it will be pretty soon considering the popularity of the Wii

Well........What do you think?  I'd rather be on the lake myself, but it does help kill alittle time.  Definitely won't keep me off the snowmobile this winter, but will fill the void when there is no snow.

Beside making jigs I have started trying to learn to whittle this winter. It's not going too bad yet and I will make some lures someday. Here's 3 of my first 4 things:

Getting a lot of help from GLB members. I will post some of our first tries, no matter how bad they are. LOL  Thanks Jeff, we couldnt do it without you

No problem Mike.  Once you get all 8 brushes, 3 or 4 compressors and all the other accessories, you should be all set...lol.  I can't wait to see your first creations.
