Post by: fear no fish on October 29, 2009, 09:46:41 PM
O.K. I know this is a fishing forum, but I was wondering if you were going to buy a new cell phone which one would you buy and why. I'm thinking of upgrading to a smartphone and wondered about them. Thanks in advance for your help.

I've had many Blackberries and now have an iPhone. I liked the BBs but they were not strong for web browsing, their email is flawless though. I hated my first iPhone and it had a lot of bugs. My newest one (3G) is pretty good. I have a full Navionics East Lake Maps (http://navionics.com/MobileMarineFeatures.asp) program on there with GPS integration that was $5, and all kinds of other useful apps. I don't really know much about the Windows phones since I haven't had one in years.

Another point to consider is the carrier. They seem to all cover "lower" lower Michigan pretty well, but in "upper" lower and the U.P. you have to check. VZW really made me mad since they disabled the GPS in the BB 8830 so that was one big reason I ditched them, even though the original ads said it was included (I kept a copy of the ad). AT&T is not bad, but expensive just like they all are.  :'( Verizon's service department is better I think since with the iPhone you have to make an appointment and go to the Apple store. And for the record I can't stand any other Apple products, but really like my iPhone. Hope that helps a little.

I just bought an HTC Hero a couple of weeks ago (it's Sprint's Android Phone, and I'm pretty sure it is the same phone as the droid 2, just a different network).  I'm digging it.  It has everything I was looking for.  Expandable memory via MicroSD cards, replaceable battery, touchscreen, 8000 apps available for download, gps, turn-by-turn navigation, wifi, etc etc.  It's a really nice phone so far...

I use mine mostly for email so I have a Blackberry through Nextel (work discount). Great for email.

I have a curve. I love it. Only thing its missing that I would like is wifi capability. There are places where i get little service. Would be nice to be able to connect to wifi. Upgrade due in Jan. I'm looking too.

I sent my Blackberry flying across the porch. Knocked the back cover off and sent the battery flying quite a ways. After a slow start (once I found the back cover which took almost 10 minutes), it seems to work fine. Guess I gave it a borderline concussion, but it recovered.

I get good service with my Sprint....even out on the big lake, where my Nextel always screwed up.  Hell, on Mona Lake, my Nextel would switch to Wisconsin's service while I was in the channel. ???
