It was a funky bite for us last night. Missed somewhere between 20-30 bites on the jig. they are really thumpin it but you set the hook and there is nothing there. this happens every year around this time. shoulda stuck with the shakey head...

Called my dad (Forrest Bone) to fish because my 3 options for partners were all busy or out of town. My dad doesn't fish much so I was having him drag some worms around and he only had a few bites but no hook ups, he was however a great netter and a good luck charm!
I caught about 4-5 dinks for the first 3 hours and it was hot and sticky. Not a lot of fun... by 8pm it started to cool a bit and little breeze but not much.
Came back to an area I had seen a couple keepers at earlier but was right on top of them so couldn't get them to commit. Caught a 4-13lb largemouth that changed the whole attitude of the boat. Now we are thinking at least we have a chance at big fish and maybe if we get one more...
Caught a 2 lber and now we are thinking we just need one more for a chance at the big bag. Caught a 2.5lber and with 30 minutes to go, we are thinking we have 8-9 lbs and a chance to win or at least not be embarrassed.
Head to another spot to give this one a rest and hook a 3 lber to cull the 2. Nice upgrade. 15 minutes left, head back to our best spot for one more try. Not much happening, start telling my dad that I think we could pack it in and clean up, in mid sentence I feel a strike. Catch a 3.5 lber to cull up another full pound. "That's it", I tell my dad - we can't do any better than that. Head to the launch 10 minutes early, first ones out and very happy.
Brian McCarter said that our bag might be a record for that tournament and he'd check the archives. Andy came in with a 4lber and a couple 2's to get to 8lbs, so the culling up did help a little.
This was just one of those nights that will be hard to repeat and fun while it lasted.
It was great to fish with my dad, we got a lot of catching up in while we weren't catching and then a lot of high five-ing in during the last hour.
Thanks to Brian and Kevin for putting these on. I can't say that I never do well on Kent anymore.
(Brian - I ran out of Sickos last night (darn- now everyone one knows what I was using) - Can I get 3 bags of watermelon gold and 3 bags of watermelon seed? I'll pay at the next Tuesday)
