Title: Muskegon Lake
Post by: dominater on June 16, 2009, 08:53:09 PM
I was out on sunday and noticed the grass is not in places it typically is this time of year.  Anyone else notice this?  Fishing was tough.  My partner and I caught 7 keepers but nothing over 3 lbs.

I've noticed this too. Not only on Muskegon Lake, but smaller lakes and even the Grand River have areas void of any weeds where its normally full of grass. I thought maybe it has something to do with the cold spring we've had.

well what i mean is there will be spots that u couldn't get to that u will be able to get to now, with this rain there will be lily pads under water again(a condition u only see for a short time in the spring)there's still fish spawning in the lakes around my house, the spawn is usaully well over around here middle to late may, like bassboss said, the weeds are growing at a much slower pace this year, there for making coves that would be choked out with weeds last longer before the fish leave them areas, and again with the mild weather all the patterns are lasting longer than if it would've gotten 80 out already,i'm still fishing spring patterns(and winning with them) when in the last decade my fish i'm chasing most would already be transitioned into a summer pattern by now,but alot are still up on flats that have sparse weed(on a normal year these flats would be choked with weed by now) this year fishing the moment will be more important then in the last decade, mostly give or take a year in the last decade u could set your watch by the patterns as they developed this year you'll just have be there and make that decision on the water,a pattern that devoloped in late june last year might not devolope until late july this year and again because of the mild weather the patern may not seem as "on fire" this year but will probally last longer from 1 week to the next..........just my thoughts on this year this is why i love bass fishing so much........enjoy,this will be one to enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!
