Title: Red Bull Air Race (This Weekend)
Post by: DDBethke on June 12, 2009, 09:38:33 AM
Does anyone know where you can watch this from in a boat on the river?

I wouyld imagine the shut off the river during the event on Saturday and Sunday?

I've seen the Redbull Air Race in Budapest (last year) and it was awesome!

Duane, I believe that the course for the race is laid out between the west end of Belle Isle, and the Ambassador Bridge. You should be able to watch from Tri Centennial State Park/Harbor on the Detroit River. It is a new harbor/park run by the DNR, located just east of downtown Detroit:

The daily dock fee is $10.00.

Being a former mechanic, and lifelong "gearhead", I have a special appreciation for the airplanes that they use. Kind of like my old "street racing" days, lightweight vehicles with a lot of HORSEPOWER!

I have to admit, though, those pilots can flat out fly!
