The east side has some great fishing, but the northwest corner is starting to heat up. In fact, do you smell bacon? Here's some northwest corner hogs from last weekend.
:o OMG !!!!! Need more info !!!!! weights? ummm lake???
Yeah Dan don't make us guess! :D
Pick a lake up there right now and you're on fish like this.
They look like Grand Traverse Bay bass...
Dan, are you from that area, or did you make a trip there??? Interested in a cameraman???? LOLOLOLOL
Holy mother of Gawd!!!
Those are ......i dont even know a word to describe those.
Is that you in the picture? I always thought you were an older gent.
McCarter himself :-\'
How big? How there holding them, they could be anywhere from 4.5-6lbs.
-Matt
I know she is holding them straight out but that smallie in the ladys left hand has to be well over 6. Its so fat it looks like its about to explode. By the way thats not Dan in those pics, wish he would say where those freaks were cought though.
Those are PIGS!! I think I might be timing it pretty good bringing my wife this weekend!! :o :o
That's not Dan on the left...? ;D
No. Of course not. He's more distinguished looking. Maybe he took the pictures?
I just like to look at the pictures. As to where they were caught... well, we are more than a little spoiled, aren't we? :D There's a number of lakes, rivers and Great Lakes areas you might catch bass like that on any given day.
LOL Dan your a funny funny guy! We just fished Hardy and my biggest was a 4 pounder, didn't look anything like those! Oh by the way Dan, good luck Sunday over there!
I'm not fishing the Tear Drop this year. As far as that goes I'm cutting way back and may only fish a few BFLs.
Wow that suprises me! But totally understand. We talked to Mesh of and on all day yesterday while they were fishing, I think Terry really misses fishing, this year tournaments just aren't in the cards for us much, we are going to do a few with South Central but that's about it other than Thursday nighters and those are iffy too. Terry's new job and his hours aren't going to allow us to do much. Mesh did ask Terry to fish the duck lake tourney with him, so that maybe will help him. I'm sad for him, but our life has changed so much there really isn't alot we can do about it.
Good luck with the BFL's!
Things change. And they'll change again. Hopefully next time they change for the better.
As long as we can do some type of fishing somewhere... I know that sure helps me. And if you can't go fishing certain days, well you can always talk about it and read about it here for free :)
And I do!
Nice fish!!!! ;)
BD ;D
I think the econ. is going to bite alot of people in the butt this year, I know it is me. Fishing will prob. be close to home and more at the river then in the boat, just won't be able to afford the gas to travel around. GOOD LUCK TO ALL THIS SEASON !!

You are not the only one. When fishing St. Clair, I am launching as close to where I will be fishing rather than making any long runs. Gas is cheaper to put in the truck rather than the boat. I have not gone more than five miles in any one direction. I have been looking at inland lakes more closer to home to fish and I am not going to fish many tournaments. It comes down to "gas" or "entry fees". I choose "gas" every time. With gas prices creeping up again, this will keep a lot of people closer to home........and I am no different.

Hey Big Dog,
Sounds like you may need a break. I have a small cabin on Big Bass Lake in Michigan's Great Northwest corner. You are more than welcome to bring a buddy or come by yourself and stay at the cabin, and we'll go fish some west side stuff. You can bring your boat or we can fish out of my Basscat. Standing offer. Kimmel has one too but he never has used it.
Thanks for the invite Dan. Maybe Kimmel and I should come up together and all three of us can go. That would be great fun.
BD ;D
So many lakes...
If I can pull of the 2 days work, 5 days weekend deal I have in the works (well, actually, I've been thinking about it for 20 some years) I can try more of these cool offers... ;D I'll keep working on it and get back with you.
Dan, any recent reports on Grand Traverse bay? My son is coming in from California and we are planning on coming up to do some smallmouth fishing the week of June 22. I have been up there many times but never for fishing. If you have any tips or advice they would be well appreciated. Most of my fishing is on St Clair so hopefully I have everything I need. Thanks Randy
Just got back from a jaunt up into the great northwest corner which is heating up in terms of the spawn. The smallies are being caught just this weekend and not till afternoon on Saturday, on GT Bay. The fish are just coming up. The spawn will start at the south end and move up the bay. Took my barber up for an outing and it was the first time he has fished in probably 15 years or more. Never fished for smallies before. Needless to say we both had a ball. Even was part of a rescue effort Saturday night. A rotund couple were in a small v bottom and tried to pull the anchor up that got stuck and sank the back end and then flipped the boat. Happened on it just after it occurred. Another boat pulled the two to shore and I towed their submerged boat to the ramp where the fire/rescue winched it up on the ramp. Everybody was fine.
Awesome fish Dan !!!!! Did those come from the bay??? What kind of depths or baits?? Nice job on the rescue also !!!!
Hey,
Guess who showed up in Michigan's beautiful northwest corner this past weekend. He was out on West Bay today. My buddy Rick drew Kevin down at the Dixie Duel in the Spring. If you haven't read the day by day blog I did on it, it's on my teardropbass.com daily blog archived at the top.
