Title: GLB Swap & Meet
Post by: McCarter on March 21, 2006, 12:43:06 PM
Looks like there is a lot of interest in an event to meet up and swap some lures.

Lets start throwing some dates out there and see if we can all get together and do this.

Everyone cool with the Hooters parking lot?

If not, lets get some suggestions on other possible locations.

I suggested Saturday, April 15th at noon in the other thread.  I'll go to that thread and direct people here.

Are we sure that Hooters will think it's ok?

I'm a little more concerned with the mall security hassling us for hanging in the parking lot.

if you guys want to do it at Hooters, i will set it up.  But lets make sure thats where everyone wants it before i start making phone calls.

I guarantee Hooters will not have an issue.  The managers love me, i bring them big business.  Im sure they can arrange for us to do something like this in the parking lot.  Its not like we are going to have 50 cars.

April 15 would work for me, but I too would be concerned about mall security interrupting our swap meet.

april 15th at conference room H works for me.

Say noon?

why do we need to do it in the lot?

Poorboy - can you get us set up inside?
Title: Re: GLB Swap & Meet

Count me in also.  I assumed we'd do the swap meet part of things in the parking lot rather than haul all our stuff into Conf. Room H.  Unless Conf. Room H has a Conference Room...

My old club used to have a club garage sale that was very successful. Wonder if you could get the word out to the 'public' about something like that and still hold it in the parking lot?

We did it in the corner of a store parking lot a couple times. I had an email from someone south of Lansing who was looking for something just like that in the past few days. Don't know if he'd travel to Novi or not.

Love the idea of a garage sale.  It might pay for my fishing for the year.   ;D  However, just seeing the date April 15 sends chills down my spine.  Please don't mention it again.  :-X

There's a Hooters in Novi?

Yes, Blake is right.? Do not look the "owls" directly in the eye.? There are so many other beautiful characteristics to look at.? The feather patterns on the breast of the "owls" are exquisite.? As are the tail feathers.

DOH!  I was thinking about fishing too much.  I can't do Easter Weekend either.  We have our Easter svc. that Saturday night.  Duh!  I have a club event on the 29th, but the 22nd is totally open.

O.A.N... I can't believe how much new crud I bought this year.  That means I should have a fair amount of stuff to get rid of now.  And I still have more new stuff coming in the mail.  This is one of those years where I really didn't "need" anything but was enticed to update a ton of my stuff.  I'm glad my wife is also my fishing partner on Monday nights, so she understands and doesn't hassle me about buying so much.  Whew!  I guess I have it pretty darn good.

I'd rather not do April 15 th as it's Easter Weekend, and I'm sure there'll be family obligations.  No sense getting in trouble before fishing season.

I only suggested Hooters cause you guys are always talking about hooters.
(it actually me a little while to understand the owl thing but i got it).

The Kent Lake fishing idea sounds good to me also. I'm open to whatever.

22nd is good by me - but only after 2.

going to the pontiac-manitou districs for pinewood derby in the morning.

Kinda fulfilling the need for speed in the winter without the boat - lol.

Title: Re: GLB Swap & Meet
Post by: djkimmel on March 31, 2006, 11:38:01 PM
Only been there once. Hooters is way in the back of the mall on the NW corner off Novi Rd. North of I-96. I found it easiest to go in off of 12 Mile Rd from the Beck Rd exit.

If you come off I-96 on to Novi Rd, go north. Turn left on 12 Mile Rd and keep going until you get to the end of the mall shops - last drive, or no earlier than the drive leading to Dick's Sporting Goods.

You have to go straight back to the back parking lot. Hooters is in the middle of all the buildings kind of behind the big movie theater. Not really a road past Hooters, just large walkways.
Title: Re: GLB Swap & Meet
Post by: Revtro on April 01, 2006, 05:17:08 PM
I'm not sure if that Hooters has a separate room or not.  Never been to one.  But I'd imagine not.  I think the original thinking was too meet up in the parking lot for the swap, then go in for some food afterwards.  Sound right guys?

BTW - If you're coming from East of Novi, take 96 to the Novi Road exit, but when you exit, don't turn North or South, go straight and stay in the right lane and head into the Fountain Walk entrance.  Take that till the road comes to a "T".  Turn left at the "T" and take it to the first right.  Turn into the lot and head to the middle.  You'll see BW3 and you'll know you're in the right area.  I suggest the lot in front of BW3 so that we have a common landmark.  How about we all meet up in that lot on the side by the freeway?

That is near the Hooters correct?

Or is there a lot on the other side by the theatre that would be better?  Please correct me if there's a better spot to meet.

Title: Re: GLB Swap & Meet
Post by: robtheboatman on April 02, 2006, 12:57:22 PM
The lot in front of BW's gets pretty full on Sat. afternoons.  The area on the side behind the Emagine theater is usually wide open.  I will be there with some goodies from some boat and motor manufacturers.

Just for those who don't want to re-read 4 pages of this post to know the time and date...

I've got about 30 unopened bags of plastic, another 30 bags missing 1 or 2 pieces, such as Zoom, Manns, Culprit, Lucky Strike, etc.

I've got 2 used casting combos, 1 new 800 lb. Fulton swivel jack, 1 barely used Team Stratos life vest ( orange ), a spooling station, 14 black leather embossed Winchester photo albums, 7 large and 7 small, brand new.

I'll be adding some more stuff this weekend.

Guys, it looks like the TBF meeting will intefere with the planned swap meet.  A lot of guys including Lt. Dan will have to be at the TBF meeting that was just announced.  The idea was brought up to have the swap meet later in the evening, but then it'll be dark and I don't see a good swap meeting happening in the dark.  So, how about we postpone it to another weekend so most of the guys can make it?

Or, we could do it at 8pm if we can get our own room at the restaurant or even if we had to go to a different restaurant.  Just a thought.

Thoughts?

The following weekend is the C&R opener...I would rather be fishing than at a swap meet, but that's just me ;D

Ok, I want to make sure we are all on the same page.

We are still good with the April 22 date, correct?

I just got off the phone with the manager of Hooters in Novi.  We are clear for take off on the GLB Swap & Meet.

We can start earlier and if you have to leave for the meeting, so be it.  More wings for the rest of us.  JK.  What i meant to say was more Hooters girls for the rest of us.

We will meet up in the back of the parking lot in fountain walk.  I will make up a few signs to point you guys in the right direction.  After we are done, we go inside for some food and drinks.

Yolan, the manager, is gonna hook us up with some free wings to help keep the costs down.  Make sure if you see him, ya thank him.  He is a good guy and wants to be involved with us fisherman as much as he can.

Pootie Pooh, i need a chew!

Sounds good.  All we  need is a time then and to make sure everyone who wanted to come knows about the time change.  Yes, it looks like the 22nd is the only date we have that will work.  So our best option is to change the time.

I suggest either noon or 3pm.  I can do any time that day.  I don't have a ton of stuff to trade, but am looking forward to meeting everyone.

How about this.

We can meet anytime after 11 am.  I live right down the road (bonus) so i will in the area anyway.  I am not going to make any signs up.  Just look for my truck in the back of the lot.

99 Chevy Tahoe
Champange

Compass Pointe Marina decals
Mercury #1 on the Water decal

Ill be the fat guy with the scraggly goatee with bugs flying out of it and circling above my nappy head.  Cant miss me.  Ill will be standing in a puddle of chew spit and singing a Britney Spears song.  I may or may not be wearing Daisy Dukes, depends on the weather.

Show up when ya want to, leave when you want to.  Im thinking we can go til 3 pm??? then head inside for some tea and scrumpets.

Let me know how you guys feel and please let me know if you are planning on sticking around for the extra caricular activities at confrence room H.  I need to get an accurate head count for them so they know how much room to save us inside.

Here is what i have so far for Hooters Wings and owl viewing:

me
Cheetam
Kdawg the destroyer
Jack2 of Yukon

Hope we can get a couple more.  If you can make it afterwards, please do so.  This event would not be possible at this location if it werent for the Hooters staff pulling some strings to get us in the parking lot.  Lets show our appreciation by giving them some business, eh?

ok guys - I'll be there, but not until about 2:00.  Its pinewood derby districts in the morning that day.  Then we'll(yes my 9 yo too) be there after that for the swap.  We can only stay until about 4:00, then its off to the TBF meeting.  This sucks with the conflict - the nerve of them-lol.

Stackenem - got to teach them early - what happens at hooters, stays at hooters.  Then life is good!

Hey guys and gals,  I had a great time.  We didn't have as big a turnout as we had hoped (probably partly because of the TBF meeting), but it was a pleasure to see/meet you guys.  For those of you who missed it, you missed out on some SWEET deals.  Wish I could have stayed longer.  Next year, we'll plan for more guys/gals to make it an even more fun event.

It was fun hanging out and putting a few more faces with names.  Thanks to all the guys that took some of my "inventory" off of my hands.

I had a good time as well.  Perhaps a little too much fun.  Jeff and i decided to spend some of that hard earned money at Greektown Casino.  I lost about $150 dollars and the contents of my stomach on the way home.  I think it was the rice pilaf that did it.  Sorry about the mess on the side of your car Jeff. :o

:D

PoorBoy himself :-\'

I wish i could have got there sooner because it took my 1 hour to load my truck and then another hour to unload it at home. If any of you are interested in some of the case plastic stuff I have send me a PM and we will see what we can trade.

Still bummed that I couldn't go.

I'll bet my wife is glad though.

Can you believe this, she actually thinks I spend too much money on fishing stuff?

Incredible!

I didn't think one could spend too much on fishing stuff.

It was good to meet everyone that was there Saturday. I wish I would have had more money to spend, that 6' 3" Kistler medium action casting rod that Jeff had was calling my name! I could still hear it when I got home!

Stackenem, I will be fishing the ABA on Neppessing as a non-boater. Maybe we can share a ride and save some gas money. Let me know.

Us west siders miss out. Seems like everyone on this board is from the east side. Would have loved to make the swap. I'm interested in getting some rods for this year if anyone has some. Looking for 2 spinning and 2 casting.

Dan - I'm trying to get more members over on the 'sunset' side. A couple things in the works.

I'd appreciate if you tell all the angler you meet. Word of mouth is still the number way we get new members on here. You guys and gals are just more spread out over there too than the SE population mass.

I actually drove about an hour and 20 minutes to get there then stayed the night...that's commitment  ;D  i did drive down from Saginaw, but I brought my wife we stayed overnight for a little get-a-way..

Jeff (jcheetam) had a bunch of rods for sale, I sold a couple too...I'm pretty sure Jeff still has some he'll sell off.

If you like St. Croix Avids (casting and spinning) and/or Premiers (casting), I may have something for you...What actions are you looking for?

Hey Jeff,
I like a 7 ft spinning rod for making long casts for those spooky smallmouth. Medium action. Casting rods I like in the 6' 6" area and again medium action. Haven't used the avids, and not sure if I can afford four new ones, but I need 4 new rods.

These are all used rods, most slightly used.  I'll PM you with what I have left.  I have a couple casting rods which you may be interested in and 1 spinning rod.
