At a time when all my bass buddies are huddled inside either by the TV or by a heater and a hole in the ice I was quite refreshed to find actual "liquid on top" water on Feb 27th. Just in case some of you thought I may have broken the idiotic seasonal fishing rules of our beloved Michigan let me be clear that the attached (I hope) photo was not taken on home soil. The photo was taken in Oklahoma last week. I had to travel there to retrieve my wayward daughter from the college she was being asked to leave. Seth and I have a mutual friend there that has the unique problem of not knowing what to do with all his filthy lucre and decided to build a Ray Scott design pond. The fish I am holding is just a little more than three years old and like her sisters of the water is just over 4.5 pounds. I caught two of them, four that would go 2.5 (1st generation) and a couple dinks (2nd generation).
I know this is getting long but, DANG IT, I caught Bass in February!!!!
Anyway, Paul (owner of pond) has made a freak show of sorts. The fish in the photo has a mouth no larger than a 4.5# Smallie. I am sure there is some "smart guy" out there that can explain this but it seems to me that the fish are out growing their frame. I know for a fact that they are being gorged with Blue Gill and all manner of Shad. Fat to say the least.
Well my cabin fever has been stayed for a week or two. I can't wait to catch brown fish but that green one sure made my day.

Hey, that fish is sort of built like you!
:D :D :D :D :D
you suck.
just had to rub it in. :P
How come I never catch bass that look like me - guess there aren't many good looking, athletic, handsome and narcsistic smallies - I always get the uglies to bite!
I'm glad to see someone got to catch some soft water fish.
Nice catch!
