Title: Thoughts on WBT winner in the BASSMASTER classic
Post by: cr on January 22, 2009, 11:05:26 AM
Does anybody else think this is wrong ? Don't seem fair to me. If a women wants to compete against the men let her pay the same entry fee's as every one else, IMO. I know , it'll never affect me personally and maybe its none of my beeswax , but I'm bored and I thought this might generate some interesting replies . Not that there's any sexist's out there , of course .

In these days of equal opportunty I don't beleive this is a fair way to approach this. If Bass wants to create a seperate Classic for women, then fine. But women are currently afforded the right to fish in any of the divisions that can qualify for the Bass Master Classic as are the men. It's highly unlikely that the WBT will let men join to take advantage of this.

The guys that make it through the other divisions dont pay the same entry fees as the elites. i dont think theres anything wrong with it at all. shes the best through the division she fished and met all requirements to make the Classic, so more power too her.-skeeterman-

Awsome, Lets get started friend.

As for the women, I think it's great to have them fishing in the WBT. It's kinda like the womens golf thing (LPGA) they started off with like Betsy King, Nancy Lopez.... now it rocks with new younger people that enjoy and bring more viewers to the sport. Paula Creamer, Natalie Gulbis

It will be interesting to see how she does. I don't like the fact that they have a women's only division. It really doesn't seem like fishing has any unique gender related advantages one way or the other.

I'm okay to get the ball rolling for the women but then at some point - if they can fish and compete with the guys, get rid of the WBT.

I would also think that a great female angler could have an advantage when it comes to sponsorships. Who will be the female version of KVD?

I don't have a problem with it, I hope she wins.  Kinda ironic though since BASS fought so hard for years to keep women out of their events and now one gets to fish the BMC.

You watch, the national media will pick up on this and the Classic will get more coverage.  We need all the positive publicity we can get for our sport and if Kim helps get that, I'm glad.

They don't have as expensive entry fees, but don't get the exposure or payouts either. The weekend series doesn't either, nor do the federation qualifiers. Let them fish. I wish her well. I believe it will be good for the sport!
