Title: Safe Boater Classes offered
Post by: Waterfoul on January 06, 2009, 01:28:13 PM
I thought I would throw this out there for those of you interested in a boaters safety course for yourselves, wives, children, neighbor kid, etc....  The West Marine in Grand Rapids will be offering these classes starting Jan. 21 from 7-9 pm here at the store.  It's a 5 week class meeting once a week (the last week is just the test).  The dates are Jan 21st, 28th, Feb. 4th and 11th.  As far as I know the GR store is the only store offering such classes.  We've been doing it for several years and it has become fairly popular.

They will be taught by the Grand Rapids Power Squadron.  Cost is ~$30 to cover the books and materials.  For this you get all the materials and your Safe Boaters Certificate when you pass!!!  I may even spring for Pizza and sodas the day of the test!

I would add that West Marine does not profit from this at all.  It is a service we offer to the community to promote safe boating.  I encourage all of you to take a course.  You'd be surprised at how much you will learn even if you are a seasoned boater.

You can contact me here at the store to sign up from 10:00 to 6:00 most days of the week.  Our number is 616-954-9822.

Or you can shoot me a PM here with your name, phone number, email address, and the number of people you will be bringing.

Store Manager, Grand Rapids West Marine
