I'm not going to spread a rumor so I am presenting this as a question to anyone and everyone...
Is Gander Mountain discontinuing its handling of the Sweet Beavers and other products from that company due to complaints from customers and various organizations claiming the name and packaging are too obsene and make poor references??
I hope thats not the case, but keep a close eye on the clearance sale if it is indeed true.
If they keep this up the whole store is going to be discontinued soon. Every time I go there it seems they've dropped another tackle manufacturer. It seems they drop the smaller companies and fill the shelves with more rapalas. Just look at their website, it will tell you a lot about how the company is organized.

you're right Matt..they have every Rapala known to man!! which reminds me does anybody have any jointed countdown Rapalas they want to get rid of?
I was told Wensday that the were not getting any back once they sell out. Your reason is correct that is what one of there fishing managers told me.
The names of RI products are pretty childish, but I'm surprised Gander Mountain getting rid of them. RI is becoming huge and could one day be right up there competing with some of the big plastics makers. Who knows, maybe this will make BPS pick them up. That would be cool. Of course, have you seen the Roboworm Sour Puss? It's an amazing looking bait that is basically the same kind of deal as the beav. I wasn't sold on them until I saw some in person the other day. Now I've gotta go get some.
I tell you the Roboworm line is hard to beat all the way through for their soft plastics, they've always had an awesome line of Finesse baits and now their Sour Puss and Pitchin' Craw both look impressive.
Case Plastics has a real good line too, they have a small "beaver" bait called the sweet pea, it should work wonders. Their senko type baits are awesome.
Ghost Baits has a full line of soft plastics and they are probably the softest ones out there, I mean super soft...they are hand pours they have all the gobies and beaver type baits, creatures and so on.
Clearwater Custom Tackle are really making good strides throughout the market, full line of handpours and they are available in the bigger stores too. The Gander Mountain in Flint has a huge selection of baits.
There I gave all the companies a fair shake, I use baits from all of these and about 4 other companies!! I am your average obsessed bait collector! :-\'
Gander Mountain has a line of soft plastics called Black Magic Plastics and in that line their is a bait called Yo Mama that is almost identical to the Sweet beaver.? The only difference is the tail. They are a $ 1.00 or two difference in price also The watermelon red flake looks good. There are a lot of beaver imiatators on the market. Which is the best???
I might wait until someone actually kicks my tail with one before I add any more weight to my plastics 'collection.' I already have some of the new Zoom Super Hogs that look just right for flipping and maybe even some interesting smallmouth presentations.
Cabelas has one in there Aqua Glow line up just like the Sweet they are on sale right now for 1.99
Have you ever heard of or tried the Case plastics line of soft plastics? They are alot cheaper than RI or Yamomoto baits and I've won a few bucks fishing them local and out of state. Caseplastics.com they are out of Va.
I fished my first Great Lakes Division of the BFL a few weaks ago and had to back seat it due to my boat not being here yet, I ordederd it a little to late. Anyhow I offerd my tackle bag to the boater who was throwing everything he had and Zeroed will I took 15th (of 156) out of the back of the boat. When it was time to give him some gas money he dug through my tackle and took 1/2 dozen bags of Case.
You might want to check them out.
you know what i love about america? freedom of choice.
if you don't like something you don't have to buy it, watch it or even be in the same room as it. that said... the beaver has put some fish in the well for me. it's a shame that gander won't be carrying them if this is the case... no skin of RIs back... they were sold out of those things all last year and barely keeping up with demand.
after last year, it is one of my goto baits. I have a pretty good stock of them now so i haven't tried the imitators..they are deadly on a t-rig.
I've been fishing with the beavs for a couple of weeks now. I'm having trouble getting a good hookset with them. I'm rigging a 4/0 superlock hook all the way thru the bait and skin hooking it. But it's such a thick plastic that I'm missing a lot of fish. Anyone have a fix for this?
just throw the Roboworm Sour Puss more..problem solved!!? ;D? ;D?
I'll be trying the Sweet Beav's soon myself I'll have to watch out for that..

i rig the sweet beaver on a wide-gap 3/0 gammi - definitley need the wide gap hook. you can try the smallie beavers also - same thing only smaller... i rig those on a 2/0 wide gap.
