Got on a good shallow-water bite yesterday, but lack in the said department. I mostly use 1/4- to 3/8-ounce jigs and feel they're a bit light for pitchin' and flippin' through the thick stuff, especially my Picasso football head jigs (which are amazing by the way).
I'm looking for some heavier flip jigs, mostly 5/8- to 3/4-ounce. I really like the Picasso, Outkast, and Strike King jigs, but want some input before I buy. What jigs do you believe penetrate the best? What weights do you like to use?

I heard a lot of good things about those new jigs from Vertical Lures, the Jig X. The line actually goes thru the jighead and ties behind, leaving almost nothing for the weeds to catch on. If you try them let me know how they are, as I don't Flip and Pitch yet so I don't use heavy jigs.

D&L Jigs are good and come through just about everything very clean. I have used them from Alabama to Michigan and have nothing but good things to say about them.
Also worth considering are the rattle back jigs if you are in stained water.
The Strike King jigs are a good solid jig (all-a-round jig). No complaints from me, and they are a reasonably priced. I don't see or hear many guys fishing them. Not sure why, because they put fish in the boat on the toughest of days.

I've tried the jig-x jigs and their very difficult to tye on , can't use the palomar knot , so your forced to tie a uni knot and its hard to do without getting the skirt in the knot . IMO...not worth the trouble .
Some people I know use the Strike King jigs almost exclusively :P , for the heavy stuff I liked the pointy head on the Penetrator jigs, but I didn't do it much this year.
First of all, a football jig probably isn't the best choice for flipping grass. They're not streamlined at all, and catch way too much grass. I would opt for something with more of a bullet or pointed style head. I make a lot of my own jigs, but recently fished some of the Title Shot jigs and I must say they are fast becoming my favorite grass jigs. Obviously base your weight selection on how heavy the cover is, but I'd get some 1/2 and 3/4 and maybe a few 3/8 for lighter cover. 1 oz if you're punching thick mats.
Thanks, everyone! It really helps to narrow it down to choices, reather than guesswork.
I'll let you know how it goes after I make a BPS run!
