Post by: irish08 on August 11, 2008, 10:02:02 PM
I am new to the site, alot of great info love it, I'm planning a family vacation in middle of Sept. with my family, 2 boys who love to fish. Anyways we rented a cottage on Torch lake and just looking for some info on catching some of those big smallies I hear are up there that time of year. I would really appreciate any info that anyone has to offer, Thanks

I'm going their on Labor Day but staying on the West side , but I hear that Skeg, and Elk are some really good spots to fish. The temperature's should start cooling down and bring up some big smallmouths. I would look for them at the inlets of some creeks and some flats with some weeds on them. Skeg seems to have the most cover, best advise would be to call the Gandermountain up in Traverse City the week before you go and see what is going on and what their biting on up their. Its better to get some colors down here because they will be sold out up there if their biting . Another good thing to do is to take your kids to the Boardman River and see all the salmon running in the rivers.  Number 11  countdown rapalas in the perch, black and sliver, and the trout colors work awsome to catch those hogs on. Its a blast.
