Title: Grande traverse Bay ??
Post by: Firefighter Jeff on July 12, 2008, 12:48:20 AM
I'm heading to Ludington sunday for vacation.  While there, my brother and I want to head up to Traverse City and try to get out on East GTB for smallies.  Anyone have information on if there is still any spawning going on?  Water temps of fishing reports??  We'll prolly launch out of Elk Rapids.  This will be just my second time out on EGTB  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance for your help.  Jeff

I was out last night and temps ranged between 64 and 68.  saw a lot of beds that appeared as though they should have fish on them, but did not.  This could mean a couple different things either they just left the bed within the last couple days or someone was proud of there catch and took them home.  I really can't say very much about the elk rapids side, because I was on the west side of east bay.  Hope this helps.

You know,  I wondered about that after I typed it.  lololol  On the other post I think I just put Traverse Bay  lolol  Thanks for the help.  Oh, maybe I should have added that I practice C&R and don't tournament fish.    Jeff

Two of my buddies fished West Bay yesterday. Caught between 30-40 fish. No big fish. Biggest about 4 and a half. They were bed fishing.

Thanks Dan,  I've read that West bay is usually a little behind on the spawn.

If you go up to the bay, you'll go by a number of good lakes. If you get blown off you should stop and try Long Lake which is just north of Interlochen. You're staying in Ludington though, which is Hamlin Lake, always one of the better fishing lakes anywhere. Have you fished Manistee or Portage Lakes before? How about Duck and Green at Inerlochen State Park?
