Guys,
Looking for an update on what the water temp is on the bay?? Further, have the fish moved shallow already??
Thanks,
Jonesman
PS. What is the water temp on Torch??
check my reply on the torch thread I didnt see this one. and yes a lot of shallow fish, but mostly cruisers
Ill have actuall temps for ya friday evening. headed out to take the girlfriends kid out troutin for his birthday. Best guess I have is about somewhere int he low 60's. My lake , Birch lake right off the bay , is at 70 degrees as are most of the lakes in the area. The bay usually runs 10 or so degrees lower than everything else. Torch should be running about the same amount under the rest of the lakes.
Matthew
Tonights surface temp was 62. about 1/2 on 1/2 off beds
I really want to come up for a day over the 4th also. Do you think they will still be shallow? I am sure the weather will dictate where you will be able to bed fish. Are there areas you can go no matter which direction it is blowing?
Anyone want to go for a day?
East Bay was 62-63 when I was out this past Friday (27th). West Bay fluctuated a lot depending on where I was. I read 59 degrees to 64 in spots.
Wolfe,
Thanks for the update. Are the fish still shallow or moving off the beds and headed deeper??
The fish are at the south end of each bay. The spawn will move up the peninsula from now for several weeks.
Eric, you still going to the bay this weekend? If so I would join ya if you havent found anyone yet. I always wanted to fish there and it sounds like its prime time. Anyways I think we got a bone to pick with them fish up north.

Dude, that sounds awesome. Just have to make sure nothing changes and the weather will be OK. I'll be in touch.
I went Saturday. The weather was perfect, clear skies, and almost no wind at all. Perfect for sight fishing.
Little did I know, the wis this thing called Cherry Fest, that just happens to have an airshow featuring the blue angels. Now, how many boats do you think were at the south ends of the bays on a beautiful holiday weekend, with an airshow like that going on overhead????????????????? If you guess 1.2 million, you are right. And toss in a few jet skis (that twice ran over top of a bed I was fishing, sppoking the fish off), and it makes for nearly impossible fishing.
Caught 6 or 8, certainly not the size or numbers I was hoping for. Gave up on the south ends and trailered up north a ways. Just in time for all of teh boats that were watching the airshow to zoom back to wherever they came from. It was so rough, I couldn't hardly lift a foot to run the trolling motor. Never had a bit up there, either.
So, that makes 6 for 6 on total busts for northern Michigan smallmouth trips. Slow learner apparently.
