I know that the type of fishing I do, is alot different then the type that you guys do. I fish from a kayak or even a belly boat. What I am looking for is a floating net to keep fish in that I can tie off to either the kayak or belly boat. I have a friend who has one, but it's so old that no name is on it, and all he know's is that he bought it at a garage sale. It has material around the top that floats, and the net hangs down from it. It"s basically a floating live well. He ties it off to his belly boat, and it floats around behind him. Can anyone help out? The folks at the local sporting goods store have no idea what I'm talking about. Thanks.
You could probably make one halfway cheap with an old net, a styrofoam ring, and some waterproof canvas to put over the top. Other than that no idea. Good luck.

I think I read somewhere about guys who use cloth laundry bags as "fish baskets". The cloth (supposedly) doesn't rub off the fish's slimecoat. I'm sure you could rig up something (like Jav said) with some foam rings to keep it floating and the draw sting would keep it closed...just an idea.
Here's is a cheap, easy solution. Get one of those floats "noodles" from the dollar store. Cut a piece about the length of the handle. Slide it on to the handle and you now have a floating net. You can even get it in a color that matches your kayak. ;D
whats gonna keep em from jumping out?
DOH! I guess I should have read that post more slowly. I thought you meant you needed a floating landing net. A plastic laundry basket is the idea I've heard of that works well. You can slit the noodle lengthwise and glue it around the perimeter. I've heard of people using netting to on top to keep the fish in, but I'll bet if you use stainless hinges, you can easily hinge some plexiglass on the top to keep the fish in fairly effectively.
Just a thought...
Thanks for the suggestions. I rarely keep anything, but every once in awhile some fresh perch or gills sure does taste good.
If you could find a mesh laundry bag, that would work pretty good. They make differrent sizes of them, and they have a drawcord that closes them. You could probably rig up one of those noodle thingys on the top to float it, or get some of that black rubber foam pipe insulation from the hardware store.
I guess it all depends on if you want to keep the fish or not. I say throw them back, then take your wife or girlfreind out to REDLOBSTER for a nice dinner. This way she is not so upset about you being gone all day fishing out of your kayak.

I ran across this mesh fish basket today. It looks like it might work out well (add some foam to make it float):
