Title: Need some help from you Kent Lake Afficionados
Post by: bshaner on June 11, 2008, 08:09:51 AM
I'm taking a couple of Disabled Veterans out for this Tips up for the Troops charity tournament this Saturday the 14th.

I havent fished Kent lake but twice in my life and wont get to practice for it.  I'd really like to put these guys on some fish.

This is the only tournament I'll be fishing on Kent and it's mostly for fun so it would be great if you experts wouldnt mind tossing some information my way.  PM me if you dont want your top secret info going out to the masses.

Thanks,

B

Good luck.  I like to think i know kent lake pretty good but after last night, i guess i dont know crap.  Kev and I only caught 1 fish last night in 4 hours.  Wish i could help, but its post spawn and very tough.  I would say drop shot a small minnow type bait.

I have a killer pike spot........Gar, not Northern.  And Cheetam is the Kent Lake Carp Master, so if its anything goes, we should be able to put you on a great junk fish pattern.

McCarter himself :-\'

"So far, 180 pros and veterans are signed up, and 55 boats are registered." from the Brighton newspaper. I hope it is not too late, I am going to try to register today.
If anything goes, can we bring a bow?  ??? I wish I had one last weekend out there with all the gar and carp.

Bender,

I talked to Rick yesterday and he said he had last minute non boaters register so he does need a couple boaters yet.

Cheetam,

It's bass but I'm sure anything that puts up a fight and the chance to fish will still bring a smile to a disabled vet's face.  At this point I just really want to show the guy on the back of the boat a good day on the water.  I'm a vet and currently serving so giving back to guys who made the sacrifice is a huge personal motivator.

Are you going to come out Saturday at all?

Looking at the Agenda this really does sound like a fun day for everyone, veteran or not.  My whole family is going and will take part in the festivities while I'm fishing.  The bonus is my dad is a Vietnam era purple heart vet and he'll be there.

Shaner- I sent you an email with the map attached.  I hope it helps.  Feel free to share it with anyone not familiar with Kent.  If those areas don't produce, blame McCarter...LOL.

I hope everyone shows these guys a good time.  I will be out of town or I would definitely be there.

My dad was a Vietnam Vet stationed near Chu Lai.  He was on a 100% disability from a service-related disease (Prostate Cancer, attributed to Agent Orange).  He passed away 5-years ago, so IMO, he gave his life for this country, even if it was over 35 years later.  If he were still around, I know he would love the opportunity to be on the water, catching fish or not.  Good luck to everyone, and I personally want to thank each service person for their service to our country...God Bless You All!

What a great event, it has really grown since last year. Everything was very well organized and everything went smoothly except the fishing which was tough. Thanks to the sponsors too, there were a ton of great prizes for the vets.
Congrats to Langer and Devon for really getting into them and winning and especially Devon for catching his biggest bass ever! (4.2 I think)
