I want to buy a pair of guide ons for my boat trailer. It's a small trailer for a 12 foot johnboat. I want them simply to help get the boat back on the trailer in rough water high wind conditions, as well as to support the boat in transportation. I was looking at both the board style and the roller style guide ons from both Cabellas and BPS. Cabellas guide ons use a bracket that is pretty traditional. One plate above the trailer frame, one below with 4 bolts to secure the assembly. BPS however uses a mounting bracket I've never seen before. It involves two interlocking ubolts that criss cross each other above the frame and bolt together below the frame. Looking at the two types of mounting brackets, the one sold by Cabellas looks sturdier to me. However, I don't really know if it is sturdier than the ones BPS sells or not. Has anyone installed guide ons sold by BPS and if so, woould you recommend them? Are they sturdy? And lastly, how well do they adjust for the hight and width of the boat?
