cameraguy and I returned to Lake St. Clair on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 hoping to whack some big smallmouth bass! We did okay but our bite was somewhat scattered and we could mostly only find the bites fairly shallow - mostly less than 10-11 feet deep.

I'll say this much about the day regardless that I didn't catch much myself - we picked a super nice day to be on the big lake!
Can't remember for sure but maybe cameraguy can - I believe we decided to start on Strawberry Ridge just picking a section at random basically. We didn't do much for a little while until we found a thicker patch of weeds along a steeper section.

I once got my butt kicked for part of the day in a Northern Divisional event in the fall in Anchor Bay by my draw partner casting flashy Deep Tiny N Bill Norman crankbait in kind of a pearl hologram glitter color. Can't remember if it had the chartreuse back or not? Being a crankbait nut anyways I bought some and today seemed like a good day to throw them. Caught this dink (I've been catching plenty of dinks and small bass out there this year) and then lost a decent keeper at the side of the boat on the tiny crankbait while fumbling with my phone.

cameraguy had on some small bass too on tubes but also lost one biggun! He made a long cast shallow and the bigger bass (4+) hit and jumped immediately sending the tube jig flying to space! We got most of our bites along that one short stretch of thicker weeds. I think we might have had one other bite near some thinner weeds before we decided to head out and try somewhere else since we weren't finding a bunch all along the ridge.
We tried again to get on some consistent action for a while deeper out along the Mile Roads and once again we just couldn't find a decent bite anywhere we tried despite multiple depths and locations. cameraguy suggested we try shallower since we were in that big cold front and maybe the fish were thinking it is fall now?

We headed to the edge of the 9 Mile Bar and started fishing around rocks. I had a 3+ follow a 2K Jigs Reaper Rig to the boat. It tried to swipe at some of the minnows a couple times. Then cameraguy walloped a moderate-sized sheepshead on snapping the Formula G3 tube around rocks.

cameraguy with his 1st tube-caught sheepshead of the day (freshwater drum - he likes being 'Mr. Multispecies!'). He caught a much, much bigger sheepshead later when I was giving spybaiting lessons but it got off at the boat while we were trying to get a good grip on it to take another picture!

Being Mr. Multispecies cameraguy even 'caught' a St. Clair goby - possibly the last goby in Lake St. Clair! ;D Looks pretty good next to that Xtreme Bass Tackle Formula G3 tube, doesn't it?!?

The day was slow and sparse for me but cameraguy whacked a few nice ones including popping this big 4-10 Lake St. Clair smallmouth bass on a Formula G3 tube!

cameraguy did a selfie!! Smallmouth bass almost too big to fit the pic! Xtreme Bass Tackle Formula G3 tube short, slow snaps! I included his picture of his big smallie because his picture does more justice to the big fish!
Then I hooked a big black toad on the spybait (Spinbait 80 G-Fix)... And lost it not on the several jumps but when it just pulled off from the side maybe 30 feet from the boat?!? I didn't do much after that other than dinks but cameraguy popped a few nice ones though we ended up leaving the 9 Mile Bar to finish our day on the edge of Point Huron.

The first nice smallmouth bass cameraguy whacked off the edge of Point Huron just swimming his little white homemade swim jig with trailer!

And another solid keeper smallmouth bass for cameraguy on his little swim jig, and that was our day. Not much for me again as the middle of my 2017 bass fishing funk carries on...
