I'm not in charge!!! But somebody's got to start. So here goes...
I'm in! I can be a boater...if somebody'll fish with me. OR I can be a non-boater...if one of you, ahem...more experienced...gentlemen would have me on your rig. I have no strong feelings either way. Just let me know.
Hoping not to be a fry forever...
Eric
Revtro...hope I'm not stealing your thunder by starting this. If I step out of line...just kick me back in-bounds. ;D
Yay! We have a new leader! Way to go Eric. ;D I'm not in charge either. I already have too much responsibility in my day job. ;D ;D
I'm in as a boater.
Hopefully I am in as a boater. At least I can get around there with the TM if the big one is still screwed up.
In as a boater!
what hours are you fishing. mind if i tag along as a boater if my work schedule lets me,,

I'm in... non-boater
Steve
I'm in as a non boater.
Im in for Kent - non boater !!!! ;D ;D
Boater!
Between living in Holland, Mi for the next 30+ days and my wifes birthday on the 26th, I will not be able to make it.
I'm not a TBF member but if I can I'll sign up as a boater. ???
Hey Durand Dan,
You don't have to be TBF to get in this event on the 26th, or any of the EBA events. So come on and join us!
Steve

I suggest an 8am start time. It's usually pretty chilly out there at 6 this time of year. I think last year we fished 6 hours or so to 2 or 3pm. How does that sound everyone?
Yeah Dartag, come join us. Lookin' forward to seein' ya there.
Yes, degraeve is correct. We're a TBF club, but not everyone in the club is in the TBF. And being in the TBF is not a requirement to fish with us. Remember though, we just fun fish, this isn't a tourney. It's just a chance to fish with a bunch of really great guys and hopefully learn a little while you're at it.
Non-boater please. I'm pretty sure mine won't be ready by then. I look forward to seeing everyone.
As I said, I can't make it. Wish I could, Kent would be one opportunity for me to reciprocate and be a boater.
I was reading somewhere yesterday that there is a tourney there on Sunday. They are posting that the park is open at 6AM.
I wonder if there will be guys there pre-fishing on Saturday, and if that might change your mind as to when to start?
Anyway, have a fun time. I'm really sorry I can't make it. I reallly wanted Seth to show me:
The 3 things to know about Kent.
Spring time.
Rattle baits.
Small mouth.
Rick, that's a good point. Maybe we should start earlier. What do ya'll think?
Makes no difference to me when we start.
Only good early season action I have ever had on Kent is for smallmouth. I hope we can find some decent LM - I have never really found them out there this early in the year.
Seth
I'm in non boater!
I am not sure yet...I may have to work, we had a big skilled trades layoff last week and I am only holding on by a thread, so the Saturday work is hard to turn down right now...
I vote for the EARLY start time.
what time does the launch open. i remember being at the west launch for the OCBM and some guys were in before they were supposed to ( normally the west launch is chained ) and the ranger was not happy.
6 A.M. - http://www.metroparks.com/parks/pk_kensington.php
:'( I don't usually get up that early. :'( I guess opening day might be an exception.
I've found that the east ramp is always open a little early. The west is normally open right at 6am or a little after
Just a thought. With the water levels down because of the dam, it may be very shallow at the east ramps and could be difficult to launch there.
It was kind of tough launching last Saturday, but the west launch you would be lucky to launch a canoe out of. By next week the water should be high enough to launch easily.
Hi Guys,
Count me in as a boater. I've never fished Kent this early so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Mark
I heard the water was coming up already. I haven't seen this, but I heard it.
I always use the slip the farthest to the right (as you face the lake), at the East launch.
The East launch is normally where we launch right? It's the one just to left when you enter off of Kensington Road...correct? I think it's usually the one with more water on it and more docks. I have only launched out of the West ramp one time a few years ago and rubbed bottom. It has piles of rocks in the way.
Yep, east launch is the way to go.
What he said. ^

Thanks Bender for keeping track...so was I...looks like you are our new leader! Yay. I can still be either a boater or non-boater...if I'm a non-boater as of today...we're even with 7 and 7.
No leading anything for me! If you follow me you are sure to run aground or something to damage your boat. ::)
It looks like there will be a great turnout, I can't wait to get out there!
;D ;D
Lets try to meet 7 - 7:15 - sail boat side - and maybe have everyone around the boats in the water 7:30 ?
First casts by 8 am ? !!!!!!! Cant wait !!!!!!
Waaaaaaaaaah! :'(
I wannna go too!
" First casts by 8 am "
i am thinking first cast by 7:35. short idle to where i want to start. should be great. i am going to drive out there friday at lunch to look around. been lots of boats there already.
looking forward to just going fishing and having fun. been a long winter.
Works for me...I'll plan on being a non-boater. See ya'll by 7am...unless I hear different.
What exit do you take off from 96 to get to the launch??? I am thinking I may be able to fish for a few hours before work..I will have to wait and see...I will bring my boat and fish alone or with someone that has to leave early if that is the case...
Hey Moto...
Not sure how late the gang fishes till...but I will have family over from out of town that weekend for my daughters birthday party. Not sure what our Saturday afternoon schedule will be, but I'm thinking I'd be safe if I was off the water by 1 or 2-ish. Let me know if that comes close to your schedule and we can work from there, perhaps. I'm open for suggestions
Mike Mcgraine would like to join us as an either, but refers non boater if it works. PLease log him in.
thanx
Jack
Hey all, great looking turnout for this event. Typical for our first one of the season. ;D Since a few guys can only fish the morning, I suggest the earliest possible meet time. Someone mentioned that the park opens at 6. I'd suggest for their sakes, we meet up as 6:30 and give them a few hours to fish. If we're on the water by 7 we could fish to 1 or so and anyone who wanted to stay could fish a couple hours more. Just my two cents on the subject.
It doesn't really matter to me because I have all day, but I'm thinking about the guys who have to get off the water by 1 or earlier. Someone also mentioned that the FOM is the next day, so there will probably be quite a few boats at the ramp for practice that day.
Whatever everyone wants to do is fine by me.
The earlier the better for me. I'm old and can't sleep anyway ;D
;D ;D
OK We drop boats in at 7 am !!
Who wants to do the pairing up ????
TOM OF COURSE there is a great turn out - We've been waiting all winter !!!!!!!!! ;D ;D
I plan to throw wide wobble cranks, rattle traps, suspending jerks unless they are on the beds ......... then we go stealth !!!
If anyone is fishing the opposite - Id like to fish part of the morning with you. I am looking to learn like a sponge this year.
Can't make it Saturday :( If there is a boater that would like to return out there Sunday morning PM me. Last year at this time it was a top water Walk-The-Dog style bait for smallies FYI!
-Kid
I can't make it Saturday...It looks like we are going to have an earlier than usual start time on Saturday at Work...I am bummed..I need to put some more time on the Boat before I hit LSC and Kent lake would have given me a chance to check out my New TM and other electronics...
Ok, here's where we're at as far as I can tell:

Jack
Durand Dan
Dartag

Hi all...I'll be a boater. Then everybody should be even up. See ya bright and early.

If you have any questions or updates, please E-Maile me at:
shotgunner93@hotmail.com
Thanks,
-Dane :)
Looks like I'm going have to back out. My son is in the hospital and not sure if he will be out by then. Have fun.
Sorry to hear your son is not well. I hope it's nothing too serious. Prayers sent.
drove around after work today. water is stained and it was windy and rough. walked some shore and did see quite a few fish near stumps and rocks. only saw one bass boat on the main lake. water temp was 60 in one of the back bays. lots of goo floating on the water. be ready for a good bath tub ring on the boat. fishing should be great on Saturday.
hoping for bright sun to see better. anything you can do about that Rev??.
Don't I wish. :D
Is there room for me on someones boat? Looks like I will be able to fish for a couple hours in the morning before the in-laws show up. I would bring my boat but with all the travel I have been doing lately I haven't had time to get out and ready yet...
There should be no problem, I think we are 1 to 1 right now so there is plenty of room. Hope to see you there.

you can ride in my boat if you want. i am planning on starting close to the launch. was going to run to erie but it looks like it will be windy tomorrow.
Cool! See you guys tomorrow morning.
Yeah, I was gonna make that long run from Kent to Erie as well, but the wind talked me out of it. :P
Saturday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 61. Breezy, with a west southwest wind between 16 and 26 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Looking like a tough day for the sight-bite, but they should be whacking lipless cranks!
Yeah, saw that on the news this morning. Doesn't it just figure! Every year our opener is rainy, windy, and often colder. Why oh why couldn't we have had last Saturday's weather? :-\'
Just in case anybody's interested here's the latest discussion as of Friday am...from my friends at the NWS White Lake office...The caps DO NOT mean anybody's yelling...they always type these in caps. Here's the link...since I teach meteorology...I think it's the shiznit! Best site for ALL the details and info.

THE COLD FRONT WILL SWEEP THROUGH THE REST OF SE MICHIGAN SATURDAY MORNING WITH SHOWERS LIKELY ALONG AND SHORTLY BEHIND IT. WE WILL BE AT THE MINIMUM ON INSTABILITY BUT A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS WILL LINGER THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS. THIS POSSIBILITY IS BASED JUST ON THE DYNAMICS AVAILABLE IN THIS LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM AND THE STRENGTH
OF THE FRONTAL FORCING. SPEAKING OF THE FRONTAL STRENGTH, EXPECT THE WIND BEHIND THE FRONT TO QUICKLY GET ONE`S ATTENTION AS GUSTS COULD APPROACH 40 MPH. MODEL FIELDS SUPPORT THIS WITH A 4 TO 6 MB 3 HOUR PRESSURE RISE BEHIND THE FRONT AND A SUBSTANTIAL ISALLOBARIC WIND COMPONENT ACTING IN THE SAME DIRECTION AS THE GRADIENT WIND.
ADDITIONALLY, MODEL CROSS SECTIONS INDICATE SEVERAL THETA/THETA-E SURFACES INTERSECTING THE GROUND, ALTHOUGH IN A RELATIVELY SHALLOW FASHION, BUT STILL TAPPING INTO SOME 40 KNOT WINDS. THE STRONG LOW LEVEL COLD AIR ADVECTION ALSO SUPPORTS EXPECTATIONS OF STRONG
DOWNWARD MOMENTUM TRANSPORT WITH 850 MB TEMPS DROPPING FROM AROUND 10C AT 12Z SATURDAY TO NEAR 0C BY 18Z. THIS, ALONG WITH A FAIR AMOUNT OF STRATOCU CLOUD COVER, WILL KEEP HIGH TEMPERATURES CONFINED TO THE LOWER END OF THE GUIDANCE RANGE, THE UPPER 50S TO LOWER 60S.
THE 00Z MODEL RUNS SHOW THINGS SETTLING DOWN CONSIDERABLY SATURDAY NIGHT AND EARLY SUNDAY AS SE MICHIGAN ENDS UP BETWEEN SYSTEMS.
never heard Sunny Elliot talk that way. thanks for the report. good thing about Kent is lots of islands and bays to hide in. most should have fish near shore.
I found out yesterday that my daughter has a band event at school Saturday at noon, so I'm not going to go out to Kent for only a couple hours & then drive back to get to that in time. So I'm going to pass on tomorrow, and that should open up a space for an extra non-boater.
Steve
:'(
Hi all...Seems this virus I picked up from my daughter has still got the best of me. Right now I still have a 103 degree temp. Cough, boogers, fever...the whole works. I was hoping to have kicked the fever by now...but It sucks that I have to bail out on tomorrow. The reels are spooled the boxes are sorted, the tanks are full...and I can't even walk to the can without getting winded. have a great wet, windy morning...I'll be sitting this one out. I will catch the next one for sure...or as soon as I can lift me sorry butt out of bed.
Regretably..
Eric
I picked up my first drift sock this afternoon, a 54". Maybe I should have gotten 2?
