Any kick boat fisherman here? I take my kick boat to delhi park in Ann arbor, on the heron river. Then I float and fish I do have a trolling motor on it works good. When I get to the barton dam I can take it out and put back in below the dam and go until I get to argo dam. That's a pretty fun trip good smallmouth fishing in barton dam, and pike to. Caught a 36" pike last year on my kick boat, yea that was a blast. Just wondering if there is anyone else who leaves the big boat at home and gets out on a little kick boat, if you have never tried it give it a try it,s a blast when a good 5 lb bass slams your spinnerbait, or whatever your using and takes you for a ride lol.
I've wanted to get into a kick boat or little pontoon for a while. I always thought it looked like it would be a blast. BTW, welcome to the site...any one named Jeff has instant street cred with me ;D...
Yea it's a blast, I went overboard with the trolling motor 55lb trust, but it gets me back up the heron river if I need to, and it works great for trolling. I also have my lowrance x-67c mount for it with tranducer on trolling motor. You can hook these things up any way you want. Right now I am making a small removable standing platform for the front, and I am putting a rapalla tube style rod holder that holds 4 rods on the back, thank god for zip strips lol.Yea another Jeff.
I got a float tube that I like to use now and then. It has been a blast. I like taking on small ponds and lakes that don't allow gas motors. It has been a blast and I have caught some of the biggest fish in my life using it. A small vessel like a kick boat or float tube is an excellent way to tap into small out of the way places that are gems.
BD ;D
I have a float tube right now and gonna upgrade to a small pontoon raft soon as i get my taxes back. I love that float tube. It got me back into places where a boat can't go and boy did i land the lunkers. last spring hooked into a 10lb dogfish with a x-rap and that was a ride! I recommend to everyone to try this quiet little approach just once and you will be back for more.
For all you kick boat/pontoon floaters, what models are you using? What do you like/dislike about the model you have? Do you wear waders? Fins? I'm just curious what works for you. I always thought it would be cool to start a kick boat/pontoon tournament series...does any one fish or know of something like this in Michigan?
Getting back into places were your big boat can't get to is a great bonus, I caught two 5 lb bass in a little place I call hidden pond. You really can't see the beginning of the little creek to get to it. When I took a good buddy of mine he was on his kick boat he said"where are you going" when he came around the little bend in the river he never knew that creek was there. We both caught a a couple pike and a few bass. I have a water skeeter 9'foot inflatable pontoons. I have modified it though, rod holders, a better rack for the back to hold batt. and small cooler for beveage, and with that 55lb trust trolling motor that baby goes. I have not heard of any tournys for these boats here but in california their are a couple, 1 I think has like 30 members that would be alot of fun.
