Title: "Chotchkies" bionic blade (a la Office Space)
Post by: thedude on February 08, 2008, 10:30:23 PM
since i'm waiting for parts to come in for a few other rods, I decided to give one of my old BPS bionic blades a little "flare":

split the grip and added some marbilizing... needs a nite on the dryer and another clear coat and she's good to go.

I think it needs more flare... I mean really... do you think the minimum amount of flare is good enough?  I could probably use a total of 10 pieces of flare minimum.

no smallmouth bass ale lately... just got back from some friends and stuck with newcastles and crown royal  8)

the whole rod building thing isn't too hard if you keep it simple. i spent a lot of time reading on rodbuilding.org and www.mudhole.com has some good videos on the basics. I bought a cheap wrapper and drying motor and was pretty much set for the basics. Made a couple ice rods for practice and then did a 7' spinning rod for tube fishin. You can really make a nice rod for 50-70 bucks if you do it yourself. I bought 2 original allstar blanks and an batson xcel 7'6" blank on ebay all together for 65$ shipped... the batson alone is a 95$ blank and to have it built would probably be a 180$ rod.... i'll spend about 40$ on it total when its all said and done.

here's my tube rod:
