What kind of strenuous physical excersise do you reccomend to get ready for the rigors of tourney fishing?
What I do is start lifting potato sacks out to the side every day. Each week I go to the next bigger size. I have been doing this for about 1 month now. I am up to the 50lb bag for 10 minutes now.Next week the real hard part starts. I have to put the potato's back in the bag.
I thought you meant potato 'chips...!!!'
Sorry to butt in on PoorBoy's turf...:)
i was going to post the same thing this morning...i was wondering what everybody does, if anything, to get ready for the year. i get a lot of soreness on roll casts and such, i usually have to use 2 hands, my wrist makes some noise from time to time..(Not good) wonder what i could do for that..
one of the best things you can do is get on a tread mill. Your legs get tired standing in a boat all day so you need to build them up. I walk on a tread mill and use an exercise bike both.

i watch at least 1 hour of fishing on T.V. each day.. i have been recording all winter... the chips are a good idea since the chips and soft plastics have salt in them so i figure this will keep my hands conditioned.. a nap is a good idea since you never get one during an 8 hour tourny... reading all the funny stories on this site and reading all the whining on the LSCN site passes the time..
gees i guess i am ready to go..

In order to be succesful on the water, you need to be dedicated.
Dedicated to getting up at the crack of noon everyday.
Dedicated to doing squat thrusts in the nude, in front of strangers.
Dedicated to drinking cheap beer until your so full foam is seeping from your nostriles.
Dedicated to dieting on nothing but MacDonalds dollar menu.
Dedicated to making up ridiculous stories that would be so impossible to even think about attempting to argue with, that your girlfriend just walks away and leaves you alone.
Dedicated to long hours spent browsing aimlessly online when you should be out in the shop working.
Dedicated to spending the bill money on Lucky Crafts, or Hooters.
Dedicated to trying to launch the boat when there is an inch of ice on the lake.
Dedicated to meditation during the winters monthes weekends instead of fixing the shower or taking your future wife out to dinner.
And above all, you have to be dedicated to packing on 20 lbs incase your motor blows up and you are forced to eat your own arms and legs until you are rescused. Plus, it helps you float if you fall out of the boat. And i hear it will be all the rage in the fashion world this spring.
These are the steps i have developed to help mold myself into a champion. They worked for me, and they will work for you too.

Dedication:
Starting to condition as soon as fishing season is over. 12 oz. curles, the only way to go!
When your sleeping ( oops, I mean sitting) in your tree all day long watching every animal on earth run, walk, or fly past you, except for the ever elusive Michigan whitetailed deer. You tend to start thinking about conditioning rather quickly. Start purchasing you "weights" a 6 pack at a time. There is no sence diving in too quickly and needlessly straining something.
Now once you have made it thru deer season and the holidays, you know that fishing is right around the corner. Conditioning starts to take on a fevered pace. By this time you have already gone past the 12 packs and are now on to those 30 packs. Your legs are bigger than Arnolds because of all the trips to the fridge, so your ready for 7 footers out on the lake.
At this point in time you realize you now have devoped tendonitis in your casting elbow. You can't even lift your arm, let alone cast with it and your so broke Lucky crafts are out of the question. In fact you consider yourself blessed if Dicks sporting goods still has there bargin boxes out.
I wish spring would hurry up and get here!!!
