Due to circumstances Derek and I stayed close to home this time just to fish my nemesis lake - Lake Lansing. We started fishing a sand drop of which there are plenty out there! We didn't see much sign of life but there were a few bass biting along the edge as we got closest to shore!

Derek was tossing a spinnerbait and I was tossing a Kustom Kicker Jackpot spinner swim jig with a pearl Angling AI swimbait trailer. I was slow-rolling it above the weeds when this bass smacked the Jackpot!

A few minutes later another nice bass slammed by 2K Jackpot! Whammy!
Derek caught a few small bass and we both got harassed by the usual hammer handle pike but the bite was somewhat slow as we moved along looking for more bass. We went back through the area twice and I missed another one that nipped at the Jackpot blades. Then we moved along because they didn't seem to be loaded in this area.

We were fishing the edge of a sandsucker dropoff when Derek hooked a decent smallmouth bass on his spinnerbait. Smallmouth bass don't belong in the flooded swamp that is Lake Lansing but some anglers put them in there anyways so you do catch a few now and then.

I was pitching my venerable Nemesis Baits Bullet Craw (Kent Lake Killer) to the edge of another sandsucker hole when this really nice bass grabbed it and ran for the center of the hole. I slammed home the hook (a 4/0 round bend worm hook) and got her!!
That was the end of my day of catching. We fished for awhile longer but didn't catch much but some small pike and a few dinks. So goes fall fishing sometimes. It wasn't a hot day but it wasn't a bad day either and the weather was pretty good. Get out there and catch some before old man winter blows in!
Not a bad day djkimmel! I was out on Lake Lansing last Sunday (10/23) for a few hours and had a pretty slow bite. Handful of dinks, too many small pike (of course) and one keeper worthy of a selfie 8)

Man there were a ton of boats out there in the morning. One would almost think there was a tournament of some sort. Were you getting bit by the drops on the north side or are you referring to the couple holes in the bays along the south side? I caught my keep on a diving crank bait right along the weed line of the the southern bays. No hogs or numbers, but always good to be on the water!
We were catching our bass in the North half of the lake. Our latest trip we caught a few keepers in the South end but again did better in the North end.
The pike were out of control that last time we were out too but they were short-striking a lot earlier in the day. There was tons of small panfish where we started and that's were the number of pike were including one big one that tried to eat my Jackpot. I was torn between trying to hook it and getting away from it because it was pretty big for Lake Lansing. It got away in the end by not hesitating on the retrieve the 2nd time the pike hit.
Later in the day the pike were hitting more directly and Derek especially caught a bunch of them. I had better luck getting away from most of the small pike.
