Post by: Firefighter Jeff on May 29, 2016, 09:21:05 AM
Any recent reports from Lake Charlevoix ???  Have only fished it once during the fall years ago.  Would love to sneak up for a day.  PM me if need be.  Thanks

I'll be there in less than 2 weeks!  If you can pass along anything you hear, I'd appreciate it.  I'll give a report when I fish.

I've seen some big bass already caught from Charlevoix this year. Charlevoix is always worth a trip! Always!

I'll tell ya Saturday Jeff. Taking Bill out for his first or 2nd time on Charlie. Gotta prefish for the 11th's tournement.   Right now I would assume it is like Elk and Torch. Pre and spawning stages. Water is probably anywhere from 59 to 63 ish depending on the wind.

Well Jeff......  I pulled in to ironton and found literally the last parking spot on the property. Including the lawn.  Tulip City BC was there but there had to be a 2nd club too. TLBC only listed 15 or so boats , so....   I fished all over the north lake. Found some unmolested fish down by Boyne City. Water is right at spawn temp. The fish i caught were cookie cutters at 2-3 pounds, but I saw larger ones cruzing the drops with groups of suckers.  Everything I got was on tubes. Pretty much all i started with and stuck to. I did try out a new jig I got at the WMB run last week. A dock skipper jig. Nice and well put together. Lots of boats on spots I would normally fish , so I wasn't able to scope out everything.

You really should make the trip for a day this year. If you come in the summer. I will flip ya some waypoints for deeper junk and where they tend to hang.

Thanks Matt.  Appreciate the report and the offer of help.  So would you say the spawn is just starting or the females off already ???

It's a mixed bag of spawners, males fanning and the low pressure cold fronts shoving them off beds back to the drop offs.
