It's all a matter of personal preference really. I couldn't deal with the slow turn speed of the electric steer.  Controlling the darn thing when I'm hung up in a tree on the bank is a giant pain in the ass too.  CABLESTEER4LIEF.

i liked my terrova until you had to maneuver quickly - like around docks - then its the worst thing in the world.

i went back to cable.

Fished Hubbard lake last year in my partners Lund Walleye boat.  The I Pilot was an awesome motor with it's follow the contour function.  It was a brand new motor.  The last day it would not turn on.  We tried everything.  There is no easy way to deploy it or make it work.  We ended up not getting to fish the last day tournament.   Headed home and about an hour later we stopped for breakfast.  It booted right up.  Turns out it was moisture in the control head on top of the motor.  My buddy was able to recreate the problem and the factory sent him new parts.  Great motor just to dependent on the electronics to run it.

I like my Minn Kota Maxx.  I have spare steering cables and circuit board with wires. .

I have both.  I have a cable steer on my bass boat and a terrova on my tin boat.  I love the terrova, and i-pilot is simply incredible, but the previous comments are valid, when trying to steer quickly in tight quarters, the terrova is a bit slower.  Depends on how you fish most of the time.

I loved my terrova. The only thing that I didn't like is you couldn't use spotlight scan on it. Only with cable steer. So I went without it. Just seemed like a cool option. My boat before had the cable and it seemed to get in the way all the time. My new one has a terrova and I  can't wait to get out.
