Title: Where's the safe ice so far?
Post by: djkimmel on January 17, 2016, 01:16:36 PM
I've heard there's safe ice (?) on some of the canals and protected near shore areas of Lake St. Clair. Also have heard a few people getting out inland in Southern Michigan but very mixed views on whether or not there's safe ice...

Anyone getting out and where / how thick is the ice? I'm starting to get the itch to go out.

Raison Rat (Justin) from Sportsman Direct posted a video, think it was on FB of the ice conditions, including a drive showing the areas.  Might have been yesterday.  Can't remember.

There was about 5 inches where I was fishing on White Lake Monday. Muskegon is still not ready yet (at least where the perch are), but it looks like people are out on a lot of the small west side lakes.

I have heard reports that they are getting into the perch pretty good on LSC....
I have also heard of good reports of ice conditions from Sanford Lake North...

I am headed up this weekend...I'm either going to fish Cadillac and Mitchell or Lake Missaukee......Never Ice fished either one but have fished them in the summer so I have some waypoints and structure to start from...

I haven't heard anything positive about Saginaw River or Saginaw bay yet other than guys fishing close to shore...

Thanks for the updates. I may go somewhere close by this weekend. Have to buy a spud maybe since I don't own one.
