Poll
Question:
Now pick the lake one more time so I can see what is best from those left to come?
Option 1: Chippewa Lake (NE of Big Rapids)
votes: 7
Option 2: Hamlin Lake
votes: 2
Option 3: Lake Ovid
votes: 12
Option 4: Muskegon Lake
votes: 5
2007 Fall DK Open is Saturday September 29
Now, we need to figure out what lake to fish based on how many can fish that day. This is all a compromise that meets the most members' needs while keeping in mind that fall is for the mid and west Michigan members to have a chance to participate without having to travel too far.
Now lets pick the lake with one last poll so I can see how many members really will be coming.
I can't make it. I have to perform a wedding ceremony. Will miss you all. Have a blast.
I picked Ovid because that's a lake I can actually make it to for a one day trip.
Voted for Ovid. I can make it.
I voted for Muskegon Lake because since I have never fished over there, I want to get the full west side experience and maybe catch a few nice smallies.
-Ryan
The 29th works for me. I voted for Chippewa for the opportunity to fish something different.
The 29th works fine for me...at this point. I voted for Ovid, only because I have never fished it before and would like too. The rest of them I have fished. All the lakes except for Muskegon, Muskegon is closest, are about the same distance for me so I don't care.
Cy
Voted for Ovid, don't think I can do anywhere else because parents are out of town unless I can catch a ride with someone who is going from the Lansing area. If that's the case, I don't care where we fish.
-Kid
Ohhhh poop, I can't make it, I knew it was going to be the 29th. I guess I will just have to try to make it to the spring open. I would have voted for muskegon just to be fair though even though Hamlin would have been my first choice.
You all have fun and I'll watch for the results and stories about all the fun ya'll had!
I will be thinking about you while I'm fishing wamplers in brooklyn.
I voted for Chippewa for a chance to fish new water, but it doesn't matter which lake. I will be there.
Willie
Voted for Muskegon because I really like it. Will be there as a boater wherever it is though. Looking forward to it. ;)
voted for muskegon, will be there as a non-boater.
Don't lie...you guys just think you can win on Muskegon! ;) ;D
Nah, I prefer to go to Hamlin but decided to go with muskegon because it had some votes. $ is not involved in the DK open I believe.
T
T, Someone has to give you a hard time. ;) It might as well be me!
I am surprised the that Chippewa Lake has received any votes at all. I didn't think anyone would be interested going to an unknown.
Kimmel,
How long are you going to keep the poll open before we have a lake?
No prob Cy, its all in good fun. I think Ovid is locked with 10 votes, most people going have likley voted already.
T
I'll pick the lake Tuesday night. Traffic has been low here for almost two weeks. I want to make sure everyone who is interested has a chance to vote (if they want to). As they say in my work place employee of the month contest, number of votes is not the only factor (but it doesn't hurt).
And make sure everyone... if you're not going, please don't vote and skew the results. Man, I wish I could be there. Grr. ;D
Rev,
Don't you have a stunt double that can do weddings or something like that? ;D You can always try and get the new couple to move their wedding to the weekend after. That wouldn't be a big deal...right??? ;D
Well, there is always spring.
Don't I wish. ;D
Rev - I don't want to leave you out, but I've run out of squares on my 'what happens if I do this' grid!
As of right now, I'll be there as a non-boater.
Me too. My grid is totally screwed up. ;D Seriously tho, I'm booked up every Saturday for the next month. Still, I like the stunt double idea. I just need to find someone as ugly as me that can pull it off. :P
So....Ovid it is???
Sleepy Hallow State Park, here we come???
Are there any other Voters? Let your voice be heard everyone!
I'll be there.
Dan, you can count me as a nonboater, but, Ovid is small enough that I can also use my boat there if we need it.
I voted Chippewa, but Ovid is fine with me too since it is much closer.
I'll be there as a boater. Will the night access road still be open or will we enter through the main entrance on Price Rd?
Chippewa might be fun, but lets save that for next year (after I do my 'West Side Blitz' this winter and get more members over there!!!!)
I think Ovid will get more people there overall and still make it not too bad a trip for anyone who has said they'd like to come.
I will have marked maps. Read cameraguy's article in the http://www.greatlakesbass.com/articles/ section of the web site. It's one of the best bass lakes with a ton of bass. It can have its bad days like any other lake.
I'll check on the entrance, but we'll probably be going in the main entrance. I'm thinking to not start until 8:30 to make sure it is easy for everyone to get in at the main entrance and not have to get up at 2 AM to make it.
There is a nice campground onsite (State Park - Sleepy Hollow) off of the main entrance - Price Road just past Shepardsville about 5 1/2 miles east of US-127/27 if anyone wants to get there the day before and test the waters.
It is a 400 acre, no wake lake with several islands and bays. It is a lowland reservior with main creek channel - the Little Maple River and some side ditches and creeks. Several old house foundations and small 'ponds' too. The main cover in the fall will be whatever shallow weed is left, and tons of timber along and in the creek channel.
I know this isn't the perfect choice for everyone, but it is a very peaceful lake. Lots of wildlife (watch for deer very carefully on the way in) and fun to fish. A lot more like what west-siders are used to fishing more of too so any who can make it should feel right at home.
I'll put up a 'electronic signup/full info form' this weekend.
took my vote off. have to go to my sons waterpolo tourny that day. see ya in the spring.
have fun
ss
I'll definately be there as a non-boater, just got the ok.

I was out to Ovid on Sunday and the night fishing access is closed. I also managed to weed out about 30 lures that didn't catch fish. It will help in narrowing down my choices. Some days that lake is tough.

And some days it's one of the best largemouth bass lakes around. I'll get a link up to the online lake map and talk about some spots and techniques that should work over the weekend.
