Title: Traverse City East Bay
Post by: Coop on July 13, 2015, 10:23:56 PM
Hey all, hope your all having as good a season as myself. Been a heck of a year out there on most lakes. Beats last season for sure. Anyways, Im heading up to TC East bay for the very first time this coming weekend. I was hoping some of you who are farmilar can give me a starting point as to where I should put in at and what areas of the bay I should concentrate on this time of year. I will be heading up all by my lonesome but I have a chance for a change and dont want to pass up on the opportunity. I know its such a great and vast fishery, but obviously I wanted to go out of a decent launch fairly close to some great fishing. Any help would be apprecited. Thanks!!

Elk Rapids or the DNR launch on the peninsula. Cover water. Run the drop off. Use the electronics. I am not the one to give too much advice, but I have caught my biggest smallie up by Elk Rapids.

If its calm, go around and sight fish the sand grass 15-20 feet deep. You should be able to get three lbers all day. If its a little windy I like to fish the peninsula shore. When I usually go there I am on vacation and I just like to set the hook. If your going to hunt for monsters you are going to have to experiment. :-X :o

DNR launch.

Have fun!

No I like to set the hook as well. I'm just heading up myself for a couple days of relaxation and to catch some numbers. Everyone I talk to tells me the DNR launch on the peninsula. How far up the peninsula is it?

Head straight up the Peninsula and it's probably 2 miles? You can't miss it. I don't fish East much, I have family on West so I spend most of my time over there by default. Just like everyone else said, look for the dang things you will see them. Then drop a dropshot straight on there noggin.

Good luck

Well not a successful trip whatsoever! Very very slow. scattered fish. never had such an issue getting back to back bites which is very odd for smallies. tried many spots on East bay and had no success. very very odd.

That's happened to me out there a couple times too. I haven't been there very many times but I have seen them get extremely squirrelly for some reasons on the bass know.

I can be tough. It truly is different than fishing anywhere else. I pretty much stunk it up the first 2 years I fished on it, and compared to most I'm still not very good. It takes a while to learn what they do and how they act. You will get it keep going.

It's worth the time. It's my favorite place on Earth to fish.
