Title: Good Bass Fishing Spots in Southeast Michigan (Ann Arbor Area)?
Post by: bigapplegobluebasser on July 10, 2015, 03:18:19 PM
hey, BIG bassers, I just moved back to MI, and want to get back into bass fishing (used to tournament fish with the Oakland County Bass Busters in another life).

does anyone know of productive bass lakes in the Ann Arbor area?

thanks and happy hooksets!

Welcome to the site and welcome back to Michigan. Do you have a boat? Small boats and kayaks are good on the Huron River. Gallup Park has a DNR launch.  They say it's dawn to dusk, but I've never seen the gate closed there. Otherwise, Whitmore Lake is decent for largemouth, but has been fishing tough this year.  Belleville Lake is also a short distance from Ann Arbor in nearby Belleville.  Lake has primarily smallmouth bass, but there are a few largemouth that you can catch.

Portage chain of lakes, North Lake, South Lake, Woodland Lake, Chemung, and Crooked are within 30 minutes or so of Ann Arbor as well.  Can't get a big boat on South Lake, but most bass boats will work fine.

Avoid Ford Lake though :P
