From what I heard today at the No Monster-quest yesterday was quite exciting. Lets hear some stories. Good or Bad.
Exciting probably isn't the word some of them would use... crazy to go out there in that weather. I'm sure glad I don't do that anymore... had my fill (I hope).
Ran about 7 or 8 miles to start. Not too bad riding with the waves. Fished for about an hour and my boater caught 1 keeper and one short. He noticed it getting worse and worse and decided to head back closer to the ramp. We ended up fishing between Harley and Metro. We each managed two there along with a couple shorts a couple pike and a walleye. I have been in bigger waves on erie because the water is deeper generally. This was the worst tournament weather Ive ever fished in because of the non-stop rain and constant driving wind. If anybody was dry then whatever rainsuit company they were wearing is the best. Please let me know so I can get a pair.
So... the lesson from this tournament is find out who's rain suit worked all day?? That's a great question!
I wanted to run down near the river after a quick stop near Metro. That quick stop turned into the entire day. I thought about it, but decided it just wasn't worth it. I'm glad I didn't.
My legs and back still hurt from getting the crap kicked out of me all day. Being a fairly young inexperienced tournament fisherman, I learned my lesson. When the weather forecast calls for that, I simply won't go next time. I worked too hard to finally get a boat I can compete in and I won't risk it again.
Some how I did manage a limit though. My co-angler took second too, which I was very happy about!
Good for you though you're still sore. Probably better smarts to fish closer and avoid a potential boat / equipment-wrecking long run. Your co-angler is probably happy overall too. Should be.
I felt bad for him that I wasn't willing to run around more. But it actually turned out to be a very good thing!
To answer the other question, I just got a new Sims jacket and I was wearing old Bass Pro Bibs....neither kept me dry. I was soaked and chilled to the bone at noon.
