Who's coming to LSC on the 18th with Wayne Carpenter?
I'm in - Boater.
Be sure not to miss this one! :D Can't wait to get back out there...in as a non-boater
-Kid
I was at last year's DOL with Wayne, and I had an absolute blast! I got to fish with Mark Hill, and when Wayne got on our boat, we went right into some good fish!
Unfortunately, I'll be coming home from a trip to Asia that Saturday, so I'll miss the event entirely.
Shane, I nominate you to take my spot as a non-boater. Whadyasay?
I'm in as a nonboater.
As of now I am in as a boater and my dad will be my non boater.
In as boater. I actually postponed our vacation flights until later in the day to fish this event.
Now that's what i call loyalty! First you come home 3 hours late from the lake...now your postponing vacation?! You've gotta be skatin on thin ice man! :D
Where are you guys launching at on the 18th? We have club tournaments on the 18th & 19th down on St. Clair, wondering if we'll run into each other? 8)
Hi Blake,
Since it's a Saturday, we'll likely be launching out of Harley Ensign. I like the cutoff ramp, but on Saturdays it's swamped with recreational boaters who are just plain scary to be around at a ramp. ;D Maybe you can hook up for a late lunch with us after the tourney if it works out.
I'll be there as a boater - I am not sure this is a DOL with Wayne though, I need to get that confirmed. the fish should be channel bound by then, and even small boats would be fine for finding fish in the channels at least till the tuna boat parade starts around mid day.
Jack
Hi. I'm in for sure on this one.In as a boater.
Bob690
Sorry guys, as of right now I'm scheduled to work. If anything changes I'll post back. Have fun!
I'm in. I can go both ways boater or non. If your planning fishing North or Middle channels then I would suggest we launch from the North channel launch. If you want to fish further up the St. Clair river then I would suggest we use the Marine City launch.
Big boat race in the SCR on the 18th. Not sure if launching in the river would be the best bet???
http://www.drtruax.com/chriscraft1.htm
From the looks of it, that race will be in the river up at the head of Russel Island. Is that what you're reading? They mentioned a DQ and I know there's one on the water right there by the boardwalk. So there are 2 ways we could approach our day. We could fish the channels, launching at the N. Channel ramp and fishing everything South of where the race will be held. Or if we want to fish Fawn and Stag, we could launch up in Marine City way North of where the race will be.
well the only problem i have is I would rather not buy a canadian license, if there is a boater that does not have a canadian license and would rather not buy one is there a possibility of us boating together?? I'll buy one if i really need to, but I know i won't get down there again this year so it's kind of wasting some money
If we fish the channels, you could fish the North, Middle, and South except for the East side of it and be in all US water.
Do you mean the east side of all of them? or just the south channel?
Only the East side of the South Channel and up in the St. Clair River are in Canadian water. The entire North, Middle, and Sni are all US water. The west side of the South Channel is also US water. If we were to fish Fawn and Stag, you'd really want to have a Canadian license because at least 80% of the areas that tend to have good fish on them are in Canadian water. At least that's been my experience.
I think our best plan of attack would be to launch either at Harley or the N. Channel ramp. That way if guys want to run to the channels they can or just fish the lake. If the channel bite is hot, then the N. Channel ramp would be our best bet to save gas $. BTW- I have been up in the channels quite a bit and there are lots of fish already there for the taking. They're smaller than I'm used to seeing up there but I think we're still right at the very beginning of the whole channel thing.
There is an Ontario one day license available also for $16.36. I'm guessing that that is in Canadian funds, but I'm not sure.
Where do you get the one day license, ~15 bucks isn't too bad? I'm sure that you can't give the water cops $$$ when they pull you over. ;D (wish it was that easy)
Are there any boaters that we have going that are planning on fishing US waters only??
If we fish the channels, I'll be ok with sticking in US waters for ya. No problemo.
Since I really am not familiar with the channels I wouldn't mind staying out of Canadian waters. I bet we can find good areas in the U.S. If guys a pulling in 4-5 pounders in Canadian waters maybe we can run in and get the daily?
If we launch out of Algonac I do need to be off the water around noon to 12:30 to make my flight that afternoon, I need to be home in Brighton by 2:30.
I don't know which I am looking forward to more, fishing LSC or my first summer vacation in 4 years and only the second in 15 years. Either way I don't want to miss the flight to find out the difference. Plus I am planning a deep sea trip if I can afford it.
According to the Ontario DNR website, non-resident licenses are available throught the mail by caling this number 1-800-667-1940.
I've personally never tried doing that.
There are places in the US channels to keep us busy, however my friends tell me that if you make the run to Fawn and Stag Islands when they are hot, that it's really something.
I've never done that either.
I was reading over on LSCN.com that a portion of the river or some of the channels my be closed on Saturday due to the boat races. Anyone now how to confirm this?
Yeah, Seth mentioned that. Here's the info
http://www.drtruax.com/chriscraft1.htm
It looks like it's mostly in Algonac on the River, so the channels shouldn't be a problem and most of that is US water.
So does that mean we can still launch at the DNR ramp on the North Channel?
Tom, will we be able to fish the spots that you and I fished on the North Channel last Monday?
I'm reasonably certain we can launch at the N. Channel Ramp and not be near any of the boat race action. If so, fishing all the areas we fished the other day Rick should be no problem.
Is anyone willing to give the race people a call just to make sure of their race area? I'd do it, but I'm crazy busy as I am in a 3 day conference and my dad comes in Sunday for a week.
It sounds to me like it's up in the river, not in the channels. There may be additional boat traffic though that day because of the race, but we can deal with that. It's always a zoo on the weekends anyway.
I sent them an email through the "contact us" listed on the page. Also here is where it is supposed to be:
Where will this take place? Off of the City of Algonac public boardwalk between the old
Henry's restaurant & the US Customs office.
I assume that means the customs office at the ferry which is at the head of Russel Island. The Boardwalk is North of there. So we should be ok in the channels.
They responded and confirmed that is the only area closed.
Cool!
Now all I need is some more 3/8 oz jig heads, some more drop shot hooks and I'm good to go.
Does anybody want to car pool? I live in Dexter (just west of Ann Arbor)
I can meet on I-96 or I-94,as it's about the same either way.
Is this the ramp? http://www.greatmich.com/boat_launch/north_channel.htm
Official sunrise is around 6:45, but I think it is light a little before that. What time do you want to meet there?
Yeah, that must be it. It's hard to tell from that small map, but the only other DNR launch in the North Channel is at Decker's and that's the other end of the channel. How about we say 6:30? Does that time work for everyone?
BTW- There is an easier way to get there that doesn't entail having to travel through New Baltimore with slower speed limits.
Take 94 East and exit at 26 Mile Road. Turn Right.
Go down several (5 I think) miles (2 lights) to Palms Road. Turn right onto Palms. Take that until it ends (next light) and turn left. You are now back onto 23 Mile (Dixie, Dyke, Green, Pt. Tremble, whatever they want to call it at that point) They are all the same road!
Follow that around through the marsh several miles. Once you pass Nook Road, you come up to a light that has a Wendy's and a shopping plaza. The launch is across from that stuff on your right. Google map it first, so you can know how far down because I'm not totally sure.
I will be there - boater.
Seth
I've read through all the posts and this is what I've come up with in no particular order, nor pairing:
Boaters Non-boaters
Revtro Bass Kid
yukonJack Fiker
Langer Daryl (Langer's Dad)
Bender
Bob690
Dropshot (either way)
Seth
Since Bender has to leave early, and Dropshot can be a boater or nonboater, may I suggest that you both be nonboaters to even things up, and perhaps that will make it easier for Chris to make his flight. It is only a suggestion, so please don't think I'm being bossy or anything.
Going out from the North Channel Launch by Wendy's off of 29 in Algonac.
The suggested launch time is 6:30 AM. If that's when we go off that means that MichKid and I will have to leave our houses at around 4:30.
(I've driven that route along I-94 to 26 mile and it takes an hour and 45 minutes from Howell to the boat launch.) If that's when everybody wants to launch I'll make it but frankly I don't even know if the fish will be up yet.
Chris if you want, give me a call if you need directions. It really is easy to find from here.
MichKid call me Thursday night for car pooling. We're going to try and hook up with Seth also. You both have my cell number.
Everybody, meet Daryl (AKA Langer's Dad) ;D
I just read my earlier post. In regards to launch time I don't know what I was thinking. 6:30 is fine with me.
My only excuse is that last night when I wrote it I was extremely tired and in need of sleep.
I apologize for whining. Because as we all know, "There's no whining in Bass Fishing".
Add Steve Liegghio to the list as a nonboater... no internet.
I am in as a non boater. Looking forward to more new water.
Hey Dave,
Glad you're gonna make it. Looking forward to seeing you again. Hey, I have an idea... how about we meet up at Decker's at the end of the day for lunch? Or even the middle of the day...
Ok, so here's where we're at:
Boaters:
Tom
Jack
Chris
Brian
Seth
Bob
Mark (just told me he's coming)
Nonboaters:
Luke
Rick
Daryl
Joe (if he's ok with that)
Steve L.
David
That means we have room for another nonboater. I wish Shane could make it. Anyone want to invite someone?
I might have another guy, I should find out this afternoon.
If not, I may also have someone I can invite. Let me know.
Hello, This is Bob Galloway, same old story have to work this weekend sorry.
When we do the partner pairings, are there any non-boaters that do have Canada licences? The BFL is next weekend, so in addition to fishing the Channels with everyone, I would kind of like to run down near Muskamoot to check a few areas.
In nobody has a licence, that is ok, not a big deal - I can take a look at the weedbeds later.
Seth
Seth, I know of a couple like Steve L. that do have all the licenses. How about pairing up with him then.
Since Bob now has to work, we don't need another nonboater. That'll make 6 and 6. Perfect.
Bob, that's a bummer. I was really hoping to hang out with ya this weekend. How about we pick a day next week and hit the water. I'll be gone next weekend, but if you can do a weekday, I'm up for it. Or the following weekend will also work. Call me when you know what will work for you.
