Title: Congrats on 500 Members Dan...
Post by: Cheetam on July 10, 2007, 10:53:09 AM
Congrats Dan!

500 members and growing...you must be really proud!

From my perspective, it's almost like watching my kids growing up...without the dirty diaper messes and formula burps...

Five hundred.  That's really cool.
Just goes to show that there is a need.

Thanks for all you do to provide a service that I personally wouldn't want to do with out.

Way to go Dan!

I consider GLB my home when it comes to bass fishing. A great network for fishermen to meet and share information. I too would be lost without it since I didnt fish for 6 years until the middle of last year. I give 100% credit to the members of this site for getting me up to date on all aspects of bass fishing. Thanks Dan for making this site possible, much appreciated, and I spread the word whenever I can. But most of all thanks to BASS FISHERMAN your posts have been priceless to me. I would have never thought to throw those dare devales, and now throw them 75% of the time, with huge results.

I just signed up and am very glad to have a Michigan Bass forum. I havent met any of you yet and havent been that active due to other forums but I like what im seeing so far. Only thing I really dont care for is when you click to post or click a topic you see a flash of advertisements. If you toned down the advertising just a tad it would be perfect (like removing what I mentioned).

Welcome aboard Gameover...
I just take the advertising in stride knowing the costs and time it takes to put a site like this together.
The more time you spend on the site the more you will come to appreciate the time that Dan K. puts into it.  The advertisers are just a way to pay the bills and keep things going.  It does slow down the pages with dial up though so I understand.

Advertising does pay some of the bills. I appreciate the tolerance and also want to point out that these advertisers are seeking GLB out because they like what they see from all of you and want to show you - great anglers and great people - their products!! It is nice to be wanted! All of you have a lot to do with that and I say THANKS!!

There will be more work on improving the look and behavior of the web site and forum. A lot of it may not be done until this winter, bit I'm putting a fair amount of time into redesigns that meet your needs (content space) AND business needs (advertising space) as well as possible. I have turned down a few advertising jobs because the requested design would have been too much. I hate turning down things, but there has to be a decent balance (anywhere from 30/70 to 50/50 ads to content is pretty normal in varous media).

Things may always stay a little 'busy' due to the amount of information available and the demand for space, but I'll keep working to improve it. May have some help later this year too if things keep building.

You should see some improvement in overall average speed now. I installed links to a new adserver from my ad company on Tuesday. Overall forum load speed shows some improvement. That's why it was done. Trying to make things better. Depending on your connection method, you may or may not notice anything.

Another small improvement in time and business (hopefully) coming sometime next week with a redesign I'm working on.
