Title: My worst fears come true...
Post by: bshaner on July 02, 2007, 07:05:37 PM
My boat was vandalized and a bunch of stuff stolen out of it today at my house while I was at work.   :'( :'( :'( :'(

I wont bore you with a list or details but I'm crippled for the BFL this weekend.  Of all the things they even stole the Mercury emblem off the back of the cowling.  That has to be some sort of blasphemy or something.  :-[ :-[

Crossing my fingers that Worldwide Marine comes through.  Unfortunately it was after hours when I found it so I'll have to call tomorrow.

That sucks, I keep my new boat in the garage and all the cars and truck outside. BUT, last Monday night around 12 I heard the screen door on the garage slam shut so I went out to see who it was. I used to keep it unlocked since it is pretty quite around here. There was nobody there, the only thing missing was my plate, which might have been broken off at the Thompson Lake launch earlier that evening, but who knows. I was debating calling the cops at that time.
By some strange coincidence I got a call on my cell phone Tuesday morning first thing from the Brighton PD. Some behindhat POS graffitied my old boat I have for sale by my shop in town. Luckily they only tagged the cover, so not too much $$$ damage, but what is wrong with these people?

B, I'm loaning my boat and electronics to YukonJack for the TBF tourney this weekend because his lower unit blew, but if you need extra rods, reels, and lures for the weekend, you're welcome to borrow whatever I have.  I won't be using my stuff since I'll be without a boat anyhow.

B and Tom:

I only need it for sunday for the state championship - I am sure we can all work something out to make sure B is covered.  Tom - you know where to reach me.

Hey Brian,

I'm sorry about your stuff,  it's just wrong!  If we lived closer to you,  you could use our boat and our stuff!  I'm so sorry this happened.

sorry to hear - but sounds like a few good people to help you out.
i keep my boat at a storage facility and not knowing what's going on there. always kinda hold my breathe when i get it home and take the cover off to see if i've had any critters lurking around inside or anyone checking to see what i might have in there. usually a routine to pull majority out before taking back, but not all the time.

hope all goes well & good luck.

There's a lot of dirtbags out there, unfortunately.  I walked out of work yesterday to discover someone had stolen all 4 of the center caps off the tires on my Envoy.  They're not expensive (30 or 40 bucks each...probably less if I do some searching), but still, there's a hundred bucks out of my pocket because some dirtbag needed to make 40 bucks quick...

Brian:

As long as you have the proper coverage for your equipment.......just go out and replace all your stolen equipment and use your receipt to file your claim.    There is no reason to miss the BFL!

You can do it!   And have fun shopping too!  ;D

I tried just giving them a list and estimating the 17 plano boxes worth of stuff.  They want receipts for EVERYTHING.  I even gave them a receipt and itemized list of hooks, weights and plastics I had just bought from BPS. 500.00 dollars worth.  She's going down each item and depreciating it.  And that's just one purchase I've made in the past year.  I will say this, most online stores keep records of your purchases  :P :P ;D.... insurance companies go out of their way to not pay out.  This one is no different.  She had the audacity to tell me her son keeps a detailed list of all of his tackle and I quote "since I'm a computer guy it shouldnt have been hard for me to keep a list of my tackle".

If I took the time to do that I wouldnt have time to fish.

Wow.........I would be on the phone to the agent!

Depreciation???    You just purchased the items!!!    There should be NO depreciation as only a few months have gone by!

I'm in the insurance business, so I know how my companies handle claims......and this is why I'm upset that you're having to jump through hoops.  This is not the way I take care of my customers.  However, having said that, I have no idea how your agent feels about this or how your companies policy reads......so I guess I may be off base a little.

But If the entire claim is only $1,500 to $3,000 they should just step up and cut a check based on the information provided when the policy was issued.

I hope it all works out..........and yes.........I do know some companies act like this.

One final thing.........contact your agent that writes your homeowners policy.    You may be able to collect your replacement cost on your stolen items.......or for that matter.......have an easier time with the entire claim!

Just my 2c

BS   ;)

When I had all my stuff stolen a couple years ago, thats what I was told also. File it with the home owners insurance.

I read your story earlier in the day andthought o how long i would get in jail if that happened to me, and then go to charge my batteries up for some fun fishing tomorrow and notice my boat has been moved. >:( >:( >:(
Not much, but enough to put one of the cover straps all the way undr the tire, which is hard to do since I always turn my dolly wheel seways to prevent rolling in the driveway, and put the covers on last.  Talk about mad.  I do have locks for all of my compartments and everything gets religiously locked up, so nothing was missing, but it is the principle.  If for somreason you guys don't hear from me on here for awhile, it's because I found someone in my boat and am now in jail. >:( >:( >:(
