My buddies and I were thinking of heading to Green Bay / Sturgeon Bay the week of May 7.  We would love to fish from our kayaks.  Never have been there and was wondering if that would be prime time pre-spawn?  Of course with kayaks,  couldn't continually move from location to location locate bass.   Would think there would many areas holding smallmouth in the shallows.  Hopefully there would be spots to protect against wind if it became an issue.  Any insight would be much appreciated.   Thank you .....

Depending on the weather leading up to the date, it could be early prespawn or you may even begin to run into beds. Once the water temp hits 50 the smallmouth start moving into the shallows.

Depending on the amount of wind and direction of the wind, will determine if you are able to get out into kayaks.

If I were going to give you a couple of starting points I would say the backs of Little Sturgeon or the back of Sawyers Bay (off of Big Sturgeon). Find areas with rock or shell beds and the smallmouth will be there.

May 10th is the NABC this year and the SBO is the 15th - 17th. Both of those tournaments will have quite a few boats in them so if you are there in a kayak, be careful.

While May 7th might be a little early, The Mink River up by Rowley's Bay has always seemed like a great destination for kayaks.  There are absolute beasts swimming in those waters. 

Flippin' gave you the same advice I would.  At that time I would think you'd wear your arm out throwing jerkbaits in shallow water.
