Title: Vinegar and Water
Post by: Revtro on June 12, 2007, 09:24:54 AM
It's not really a product per se, but I have to say thanks to Langer for this one.  I had that white limey stuff all over my lower unit and was about to go out and buy Lime Away.  I noticed that Langers motor looked like new and I asked him how he got the limey stuff off.  He said he simply used a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water.  So I tried it and with a little elbow grease, the lime is gone and the motor looks like new again.  I have tried a few other products that didn't do the job, but the ole home remedy worked like a charm.  It also got the scum line off the boat.  I had a bad one that a bio degradable product I had tried wouldn't get off.  But back to the ole V & W and it did the trick.  It also got out the water spots on the chrome.  Man, what a time and money saver.  Thanks Langer!

When I was done, I wiped the boat down with 303 (BassBoat Saver type stuff) and now it looks like new again.  Also, I hear that this solution is what doctors recommend most.  :P  Salad chefs too I suppose.

My wife is always making comments that my boat smells like a giant pickle. :)

Since I live on a small river here in GR and am concerned about VHS and Zebra mussels spreading to my home water, I keep a spray bottle of bleach diluted with water in my truck.   I'll spray a light coat on the inside of my livewells and inside the drain plug when I'm done to try and keep any hitchhiking critters at bay.

Glad I could help.  I just take 10mins after I pull the boat out to wipe it down using the V&W, helps keep it clean and shiny. Reminds me I need to clean mine after my last outing, it rained the whole time. I think I'll wash and wax it this weekend, after I go fishing of course.

V and W will also kill the weeds in the driveway after you are  through washing.  :D

it is the only thing i have found to get the water spots of my Merc engine cover..  i learned about in on the old Bass show Mark Zona had.  he claimed it was the best and he was right.   cheap also.  someone should bottle it and sell it for 4.95 a bottle.
