My Florida fishing adventure.
Spent a week at the Villages south of Ocala. Before I get started the Villages has a really bad reputation of a party, STD capital of Florida. Seems like everyone I tell we were there snicker and ask if I am still healthy. The place has 50,000 homes with an estimated 100,000 people living there. I am sure there are bad things going on there but we didn't see any.
On with the story. The main mode of transportation is a golf cart. There are numerous ponds throughout the complex that are stocked with Bass. I talked to couple guys before I went and the suggested a couple to try. The first morning was frustrating. I tried Senkos, Jigs, Chatterbaits and never had a bite. I had a rod rigged with one of my swim jigs and a swimbait trailer. Second cast I was retrieving it close to shore had had a blow up bigger that anything I had seen in Michigan. The fish came out of the weeds but missed the bait. Next cast it inhaled it. I keep my drag pretty tight and this one was stripping line. Had to be close to 5 pounds. There I am standing there giggling like a little kid with this huge bass. I took a photo and put it back. I ended up catching 2 more that size and some smaller ones. All on the edge of the weeds. The next day was about the same. Funny when a 3 pounder doesn't really excite you. Then a cold front came through with lows in the 40's. I had always read about how Florida bass are really affected by them. That day and the next I only caught 2 fish. But both were big. Finally on our last day there it got back to the high 70's. Late in the afternoon I went to the best pond. Fishing almost all the way around without a bite was frustrating. I casted next to a small weed clump and saw it start shaking as the water exploded. It was a great fight and when I got it in it was by far the largest bass I have ever caught. Wish I had taken my scale with me. The next day we packed up and headed back to the polar vortex. Got some good memories until we go back in February.

Rick... Who are you kidding? You don't have money to go to Saginaw for a 2 day mini Rally... 2-3 hrs away from home. ::)
