Title: Traverse East Bay
Post by: Coop on September 20, 2014, 02:06:18 PM
Anyone got any good information as to if the Smallmouth fishing has been good in the East bay of late? I never fished it, and was thinking about heading up there the weekend of October 11th to try it out. Anyone out there, please let me know if the fishing should still be good up there then, and let me know a good launch area to head out to some productive fishing areas out there. I would prefer staying very close to the city because my girlfriend is going and she wants to be close to shopping.

thanks

Actually you would probably do better on the inland lakes that time. Water temps on those right now are 60 degrees. With this 55 degree rain we are getting today they will drop. The bay will be in the low 50's by the time you get here .

If I am around and not doing some duck whopping I might be convinced to show ya around my area.

If you can find the bass in all that water you can do real well. I've only launched from Elk Rapids most of the time but there are other ramps I think mostly on the West side of Traverse City and up the peninsula.

I like fishing that time of year but I haven't done it much. I saw pretty good reports for bass fishing this year out on the Bay overall but it is nice to have all those inland lakes nearby in case the wind blows or the bass aren't making it easy to find them out on the big water.

Most of the inland lakes in that area are good lakes and fall is my favorite bass hunting season! You'll enjoy the beauty of Pure Michigan no matter what up there.

Just returned from that area two weeks ago. Fish were in deep water 20ft to 30ft of water, dropshot brown, green and green and white tubs caught most fish. Water temp was 68 yo 70 degrees. On island lakes. Fish  caught on  the bay that week were in 60ft ft of water.

I just posted a report in the Traverse Bay index. I was up last weekend, it was brutal.
