The wife and I spent the week of Labor day at Mullett Lake. Although according to my wife this "Is NOT a fishing vacation", we did manage to spend some time fishing. Luckily a friend of hers joined us for a few days so I had something to distract her while I "wasn't fishing".
The first day we arrived at the cabin we took out the pontoon boat that came with the house rental. We only went about 100 yds from the dock and were getting a few bites, but no hookups. I was in the front of the pontoon and my wife was fishing by the motor. She makes a comment about her feet getting wet and I look back to see 2-3 inches of water at her feet and the motor in water up to the "evinrude" sticker on the motor cap. I try to start it and nothing - the motor is wet. We start rowing and are making no progress. Luckily another toon came by and was able to tow us back and get it into the hoist at the dock. Hole in the toon - Not a good start to the trip!
The next day we rented another from the marina at indian river (for a few hundred less than the cabin owner was charging!).
I managed to get out a few days and probably got 3-5 fish per day. Couldn't find more than 1 fish at a time. Multiple fronts blew through over the week and that probably had something to do with it. Also couldn't get my portable transducer to give me anything other than GPS, so was fishing a bit blind. The fish I did catch were caught on DS or a black back yellow KVD 2.0 square bill. Couldn't get bit on spinnerbaits, tubes, topwater, or c-rig.
Biggest fish was my first at 5 1/2. Most of the others were in the 3.5 - 4.5 range.

I fished mullet for the first time this year. What a beautiful place!! Catching smallies from the pontoon...nice job!!!!
Hey Dan,
This is Mark. I shared a trip with you back in may with Marcel. I have a question concerning the place you stayed at on Mullett Lk. My buddies and I are going there for 4 days on Oct 8th. I have a place booked but am looking for a place on the lake if I can find one. Do you recommend the place you stayed at? Does it have 4 beds? Many places sleep 4 but you have to double up and I don't like these guys that much. You mention a dock. We will have two bass boats and rather than trailer each day we would prefer to tie up at a dock or on boat hoists if available. Having a place on the lake would allow us to take a lunch break etc without having to load up or take a lunch with us.
Let me know,
Thanks,
Mark
They closed her down for the season the season on Sunday. Check out vrbo. There are also a bunch of cabins in Indian river that are on the river with docks. You may want to check those. Sorry I didn't get the names but you should be able to find them on google.
