Title: Kent Saturday
Post by: Revtro on May 21, 2007, 09:33:54 AM
Hey all,
Kent Lake is this Saturday.  Who's comin?  We got to get pairings figured out.

I'll be there - Boater.

I'll be there with the boat.
I just checked and the park opens at 6 A.M. Sometimes there is nobody in the booth that early, but they will come give you a ticket later if you don't have a sticker. You can either go to the park office that early or get the ticket, then take it up and pay for the pass later where they normally destroy the ticket.
Since it is a holiday weekend it will probably be busy. What time works to meet there?

My dad and I will not be able to make it to this one. The Wife and I are heading up north to her parents, I protested until I found out that her dad wants to do some wading in the shallows around Port Austin for some Smallies, I guess they really hammered them last year this time, hopefully we can do the same.

Good luck to all that go to the Kent lake event, I had a tough time getting bite on Sunday 5/20 in my tournament, I got one on a hula grub early, broke one off, and had one come un-buttoned at the boat, then with only an hour left I managed to complete my limit using a shakey head, got my 5th fish with 15 minutes left in the tournament. The winner caught most of his on some 20 dollar shad swim bait. Heard of other catching most of there fish on carolina rigged sweet beavers and shakey heads.

unfortunately, I can not go.   My niece is getting married Saturday.

The wedding is in Kazoo in the middle of the day, so I can't even do a before and/or after thing.

I'm bummed.  Kent lake is another lake that just eludes me every time I go there.  That, and it's one where I can be a boater.

Perhaps I can hook up with one of you "old pros" another time.

Good luck fishing.

You can't go to Kzoo without stopping at D&R sports and if you do see if they have any of Kim Strickers Stricknyne Shiners in the garlic. I am running low and no place down here in GR carry them. Just east of D&R is the best little ice cream parlour around. Got to try that as well. Make sure you taste the peanut butter sauce.

6 A.M. then? To get a good early start? Or do you want to wait a little until things warm up and start at 7?

Also, which launch, East or West? I've only gone out of the east once but it was much easier than the west.
Also I broke my crankbait rod last Saturday, any body have one for sale that is coming? looking for a 7' Medium fast spinning. Otherwise I'll see what I can find locally for now.

Want to prefish with us on Saturday Steve?
None of us have a Ranger though.:( ;)

I vote for 6am since the park will get crazy as noon approaches.

I might have an extra 6-6 med. spinning rod.  I'm not sure...I'll take a look.  If I do, it's yours.

Who is putting on this tourney and is it an open?

bassinman#1, It's not a tournament.  This is a club outing.  But we'd love to have ya along!  Our events are just fun fishing events for people to get to know each other, make friends, share info, and learn from each other.  It's a fun bunch of guys and a great way to meet and make some new friends.  If you'd like to fish with us, let us know.

Bob, I hope you can make it.  Missed ya lately.  Drop me a line.

Ok sports fans, it looks like we have 4 and 4 for Saturday.

How about this for pairings?

Tom - Mike
Shane - Steve D.
Chris - Steve L.
Jack - Luke

I tried to figure out who guys have fished with the least and pair them up.  If you have other preferences, just say so.  I don't care who I fish with, yer all a bunch of nice fellas.

Nobody else chimed in, so I assume that means 6am is fine with everyone at the East ramp.  The East one is the one with the metal poles at the end I think.  The bigger of the 2.  See ya'll then.

Good Luck to all, Mark

You already have me as a non-boater... Steve D.  So that's cool.

I might be cutting it close on 6am.  The best I can do is call one of you guys when I'm on my way out there.  I might not be able to get on the road until 5:30am, and I think I'm about 45 minutes away.

Steve D.???  Who is this guy???  I've heard people talk about him I think!  ;) ;D :D  I can't wait to fish with ya!  If you need me to wait for you to show up, it's no problem.  Take your time and don't hurry.  We have all day.  I can't wait to see everyone.  For those who can't make it;  have a safe and happy holiday weekend!  You guys will be missed!

Hopefully fishing goes well tomorrow, I'm a little worried with this cold front that has moved in.
I went out there last night and used the west launch, really shallow and a lot of rocks. I was out for 2 hours and got a couple of LM, then 2 big SM bass. Man these guys really put up a fight! Hopefully they are still active tomorrow! See you all there.

From Lansing Head east on 96.

If you go out of the West Launch you should get off on Kensington Rd. Take a Left at the top of the on ramp, park entrance is on your right after you cross over 96. The launch is the first parking/picinic area you come to on your right hand side, past the golf course.

If you are going out of the East launch go past Kensignton Rd, and get off at Kent Lake road, turn left on Kent Lk Rd (North). The Launch is the 1st drive immeadiately after the pay both.

The personally like the West launch, but it puts you in the far SW corner of the Lk. The East launch puts you in the middle of the Lake, for those of you who like to head north in the lake.

If you launch out of the West you can beach your boat along the shore to the left of the launch, if you launch at the east Im not sure if you can tie up to the breakwall and docks or not.

Good Luck to you guys this weekend, wish I was able to partake.

Nice Smallie Chris.

We're launching out of the East ramp.  There's plenty of seawall and a boat marina where we can tie up if we need to. But there are at least 6 docks, so there's plenty of room at the ramp.

Wow what a day! I was scared there for a while, Jack and I didn't even get a bite for the first 45 minutes. And then we found 'em  ;D Jack and I put probably 40+ fish in the boat before 11:30. I was culling out my fish at 9:00. Then the rains came...now that I think about it I didn't land a fish after we left the bridge...Oh well we caught enough in the first 5 hours, having yur wrist sore the next day is a good thing! ::) thanks again for taking me out Jack i hope to fish with you again some time. Great meeting Mojo and seeing everyone again.

We experienced the same thing.  Once we left the bridge, we only got one fish.  It's weird what the storm did to the fish.  I wonder if it pushed them off the banks?  Still had a great day.  Mojo didn't get there until 8:30 so he didn't get into as many fish, but I think he still had a good time.  I know I did.  That was one of the better Kent Lake days I've had.  Usually it's much slower than that.  Looking forward to St. Clair on the 9th.  Judging from the busy ramp the other weekend, we should get a very early start if we want to launch at the Cutoff/Ballard ramp that day.  I recommend that ramp because it'll put us right on the middle of the lake.
