Title: POWELL RODS
Post by: thomas on May 18, 2007, 03:47:32 AM
I've purchased 3 powell rods and found them to be outstanding rods. Has anyone else purchased these rods and if so,  how do you like them?

Heard about them, and kind of wish I would have bought one.  Bought an Airrus instead, been out about a dozen times and have to take it back to have it replaced for losing 3 inches of the tip while reeling in. ???

I purchased a 6'8" ML Fast Action spinning rod for my tube fishing, a 6'8" L Extra Fast Action spinning rod for drop shotting and a 7' H Extra Fast casting rod for texas rigging, caralinea rigging, etc. I'm looking forward to purchasing a Powell glass rod for crank baits.  Yes Kevin also fish's with Powell rods. If he fish's with them, how can you go wrong by purchasing some for yourself. ;D ;D  They are so light, if you didn't have a reel on them, you wouldn't know you had one in your hands. I believe you can purchase them at South side tackle shop in Belleville.

I herd they were made in china? is that true or are they made in the good old USA like Loomis, H & H rods, and St Croix, I also herd that some of kistler rods were made in china land.

I believe they are made in China. I also have St. Croix. I like the Powell better.

Name a company you can guarantee all of their parts, materials, raw materials, marketing, customer service, assembly are all 100% made or from America??  Employees included.

Bringing the China thing up just detracts from a good post by Thomas.  Always glad to hear when anglers get equipment they truly enjoy and can put to good use.  Glad you got some rods you like Thomas!!  Now go out and put them to good use!!  And show us pictures when you do!!  ;)

Javelin, Sorry to hear about your Airrus rod.  I've got 6 of them and havent had any problems.  I love them.  I hope Ken does you right and replaces it for you!  I havent had to test his warranty but I believe it is top notch!  Please let me know how that goes for you.

All I am trying to say is with the economy the way it is I try to buy as much as I can that is made in the USA. Ardent reels, Mercury, Ranger, Minn Kota, H & H rods, Ford F250, Like I said I just try to support THE USA.

outlaw, I to would rather purchase American products. Now when I purchased these rods I really did not know they were made in China. Had I known I probably would still had purchased them. I like the feel and thought I would try them out.  As much as I would like to think all things made in America is top quality, it just isn't always true. If I affended you by purchasing other than American I'm sorry. Let's go fishing one day, I'll let you try them out. The economy is only bad in Michigan, every where else is just fine. I sure did not mean to stir things up.

I have to put my 2 cents in here about Powell rods, I have five and love them all, and to be honest most rods blanks and the components are made overseas, then assembled here.
Thomas you made a great choice with the Powell line. Also if anyone is looking Al & Bobs in Grand Rapids and Korbinski's in Houghton Lake also carries them.
Oh yea Thomas, if you do have any problems with the Powell rods
just let me know, being the Powell rep for Michigan I personally guarantee you will love them.

OUTLAW

I'm from the Detroit area. I will try very hard to get to the west side this year. I'll contact you when I do. You will be buying Powell rods. They are great rods I assure you. I would enjoy meeting and fishing with you. The best part of this forum is connecting the face with the name. I meet and fished with Langer this year and enjoyed a day of fishing with a very nice young man. I hoping that next year he will be fishing with me on the FOM tournament trail. While riding my son's bike today I meet mazinblue, plan on fishing with him soon. Hope to enjoy a day on a lake with you this year.

Took my Airrus back to D&R today and got my money back on a gift card, looked at all the rods they had available, and decided to buy the Shimano Crucial.  Not a fan of Shimano but the rod feels very nice and I want to try it.  A little more pricey than the Airrus, but definitely not as bad as the Loomis' are, or the Kistlers that I own.  Feels nice and I'll get to test it out here today on the river fishing for some smallies!!!!

Like thomas said I have used my new Powell rods this whole season so far. I started my season in March in Ky. and so far the Powell rods are the best I have ever used. They have technique specific rods for just about every style of fishing you could chose to do and the sensitivity of these rods is phenominal. I used to be a die hard St.Croix fan and this past weekend I picked up one of my avids after using my Powell and the avid felt like I was holding a broom stick. If any of you get the chance to use a rod from Powell I know you will love them and if you ever want to get out fishing and sample these great rods let me know and I will take you out and show you what you are missing.
