Title: Water clarity
Post by: PIGSMALLIE on May 14, 2007, 12:56:54 PM
Was wondering how the clarity is going to be in St. Clair by Friday 5/18/07 ;)

It all depends on the wind and run off from rain, so it is hard to predict especially this time of year.  This link should help, on clear days the pictures are pretty good.

The winds are set to shift out of the Southwest by tomorrow.  This should help with the Western shoreline.  They're calling for Northwest winds for the following 2 days and West winds for part of the day on Friday.  As long as the winds stay more westerly than northerly, it should help quite a bit with the US shoreline.  However, if we get the storms we're supposed to, it could cause a lot of outflow from the Clinton River and the cutoff.

However, the reports I heard from many of the guys on Saturday was that the dirty water didn't seem to affect the Smallmouth bite.  My guess is that down near the bottom of 8ft or deeper water, it's probably much clearer than what we see on the surface.  So unline my experiences the week prior, the water clarity may not have much affect on the Smallmouth bite if you're fishing the 8 - 12FOW zones.  I'm gonna put my camera down there this week to verify that.  I'll probably be out there on Friday too, so give me a shout.

Rev,
I'd like to go out with you, but Friday doesn't work and I'll have to get back with you, but I would like to definitely get out soon. Maybe we can trade trips and you can come up to the beautiful northwest corner and we can get out on some great smallmouth water in early June. You can stay at the cabin and within 45 min to an hour we have a number of quality lakes.

My wife and I will definitely need some time off in June, so maybe we can work that out.  Sounds like fun.

We should hook up out there too, Rev.  I'll be out there with a guard buddy all day.

If the water's muddy, I'll be putting my camera down to see if the bottom is clear.  Sometimes it's deceptive just looking at the surface.  I'll let ya know what we see.  I'll out there Friday and Saturday.  Hope it gets warmer.  I'm freezin' today.  Brr.
