When smallies are on beds the fishing doesnt get any better....
With one exception... the smallies are on beds and your son is in the boat with you..
I took the boy out over the weekend to finish the break-in on Wamplers and at his begging and pleading we stopped to do some fishing...
We rolled up on a bed and I began to teach him what little I know about bed fishing... I pointed out the bed, made a perfect cast a few feet past the bed and began to work it toward the bed when I hear the splash of a 1/4 oz tungsten married up with a 5 inch hula grub. This came as a complete surprise because as I recall I was throwing a 3/16 oz tungsten with a brush hog.
Just as I turned around to confirm my suspicions I see the boy loading up on the smallie in the first pic...
The second bed he found on his own...
Life just doesnt get any better than that..
And ya Josh, that was another "dang" 3 lb'r.

I have not fish St. Clair yet. Do you think I could hire your son as a guide?
thomas ;D
Sure! Make the check payable to me. You can have him from 6:00am - 8:30am and 3:45pm - 6:00pm Monday thru Friday. You just have to make sure to drop him off at school on time and pick him up on time. You'll need to stock up on lots of Cheeto's and Kool-ade.

Awesome pics Shaner...Maybe you should team up with your boy in a weeknight series? ;)

YukonJack is gonna TD an inland lake series designed with kids in mind and he'll be fishing with his boy. You should talk to him. Sounds like a fun trail.
Dont forget about the Youth Portion of the TBF, I think its the most important part of the TBF.
That's whatits all about. Its easy to get caught up in the competion of the sport. Trips like that are the ones you will remember for a long time. Some of my fondest moments as a child are trips just like that one.

We just came off of Oakland and they are up on the beds too. I had my 7 year old boy and my 4 year old girl dump their bobber and pitch a worm. They were facinated when I put polarized glasses on both of them so they could see the bass cruising around. They both stroked 2 - 3 ppounders while my host Chris couldnt catch a lick. He got beat by a barbie pole !!
We next pulled around to 6 feet while the Bluegills and sunfish surrounded the boat (sprinkle some crackers in front of the boat before they cast and they'll have a field day) trying to jump in the boat.
Guys - they NEVER forget days like that. 20 years from now this darn sport will give back to us.
Days later both kids have made a mention of it so I know this one goes into the long term memory. In case anyone wants to look, we have 5 Parent / child fish days coming up in NBAA. Fully sponsored, free for you, 9 am to 12 pm on Saturdays. We will weigh the biggest fish your child catches. Prizes for Big Fish and Most fish (all species).
Details at NBAA website, Divisions, Kids Division.
We had a fun practice day 5/19 on LSC with MOjo and my son Jeffrey. He got a new lure set of Dale Jr #8 3 pack pop-r, rattle trap and crank bait. First cast with the rattle trap and his rod loaded up with a largie - never forget how big his eyes got on the strike - thats what its all about. Mojo got his first LSC spinnerbait smallie as well for a double and chinese firedrill all at the same time.
