Will be spending next week with a friend at a place he rented on wixom lake across from the dam. Any hints you guys can share on rough locations and good baits for wixom?
Neither of us have fished it before and with the pontoon he rented, we won't be flying around the lake hunting locations.
Worse case we can skip docks, just not sure the layout of the pontoon - could make skipping a little tough.
So much for the hints! Lol
Caught about 15 LMB mostly on top water in the shallow flat by the dam in front of the marina. Also got a few in the canal in front of my buddies rental.
Tough lake to fish without a depth finder. Didn't get a bite anywhere over 10 ft. Tried dropshot, cranks, jig nada.

You know
It could just be the weather
Last year, I was doing great deeper
This year, it's almost the end of july and I'm catching the fish in 1-2' of water on all the local lakes
Just have found a decent deeper then 6' bite this year
My thoughts are
Cooler temps, high water and allot of rain has the fish shallow this year
Just seeing this now. You can find them easily in the shallows on Wixom but the larger fish seem to be deeper still. Top water is good in the morning hours. Most of the time I target 10 and greater water on Wixom.
What do you typically use? I tried a bunch of different approaches without luck in the deeper water. Lack of a fish finder made it a bit tougher.
Drop shot and jigs mostly. You have to have electronics to find the deaper grass/cover.
