I haven't read the listed article here, but did go to Mark Zona's seminar at D&R this past Saturday and thought he did a very good job explaining it.

Thanks for the post.  I've been looking for anything I can read on the technique.  This is going to be my "learn something new" technique for the summer.

I haven't heard anybody talk about using it on Clair.  I gotta believe that it'll work just fine there.

I doubt shaky head fishing will work at st clair this year cuz I cought all the fish that were dumb enough to bite it last year especialy the ones in july that I won the ABA tourney with ::)

I caught a lot of Largemouth on a shakey head w/4 inch roboworm in the canals at St. Clair.  Apparently word travels slowly to the canals, so there are still some dumb fish there.

But seriously, I have had some success with shakey headin' on St. Clair, especially when fishing a little shallower.

And if you want a good deal on a Loomis Shaky Head rod either the SHR 822 or 821, they are going on Ebay for Buy It now at $150 + $20 ship for $170 Total. That sure beats $220 MSRP...I got one coming this week.

Search Ebay..They are out of Oklahoma City,OK....

Also, if you have been reading on it in FLW Outdoors and In-fisherman BASS guide. You can find Fukae's "Skip In The Shade" jighead here:

http://www.marukyu.com/eng/ecogear/jighead/skipintheshade.html

Pretty cool looking head but you can only get them in Australia for $9.00 for 4-5 jigheads depending on size right now. Of course, if you would rather have a 60 degree flateye jighead then you won't want a 90 degree head anyways. I'm sure Johnny Morris is copying them as we speak in China  ;D So look in your BassPro Catalog for 2008.

Goggle is your best friend for finding fishing lures  ;D

Zona said he has been involved with the development of a shakey head jig by "Bite Me." He also claims that it makes a big difference on how you rig it. He puts the hook through only about a quarter inch or less, and then as he is shoving it up toward the lead he twists it 180 degrees. When he reinserts the hook he puts a crook in the worm. He uses only Zoom trick worms. It will not look straight like you want a texas rig worm or grub.

I found a guy on ebay by searching "shakey head".
The sellers name is sweet4runner

His are football type heads with 60 degree eyes, and has the screw attachment poured into the head. I ordered some, and although I haven't used em on the water, I do like how the worm attaches.

He will custom make 'em.  Makes sizes from 1/8 to 5/16.  He will also make the color a choice as well, it appears by dipping them.  I believe that the hooks are 3/0 Mustads.

I think I paid $9.99 total for ten jigs delivered.
He does not mix and match colors and weights, You have to get 10 of whatever you order.  Unless you visit his store......

Carl at Tourneyjigs.com makes great shakey heads, too.

He has football, round, and stand up available.  All are equipped with either Mustad Ultra Point, or Gamakatsu 4/0 hooks, Stainless steel spring, 60 degree flat eye, and baked on chip resistant finish in 5 color choices.

These are awesome not only for shakey head, but also for using expensive soft plastics in place of texas rigging.  The spring keeps the baits from getting torn apart.  Last year we were catching up to 15 bass per RI sweet beaver.  Usually, your lucky to get 2 or 3 before they tear into pieces on a texas rig.

He uses different springs than most companies, too.  I have seen many of the spring heads put to the test and the same thing happens to most of them, the springs break right out of the head.  Or they rust after a couple uses.  Stainless is the only way to go.

Check them out using the link under my post.

I am really pleased with the Buckeye Spot Removers.  If I could find someone making knock offs of those I'd jump on it.

I love spot removers and theyre all I use for shaky heading, they have a couple different ways to attatch the worm one is a screw wire and one is a barbed post both work great and you can buy them at bps or order them right from buckeye like I do and they arrive promptley.

These are what I picked up from Gander Mountain to try this year.

They are made by Bagely Fishing Products. Cant remember what I paid for them off the top of my head. I will give them a try and report back later.

Langer,

Just one man's opinion here but I dont like using the jig heads that slide down the entire hook over a lip for finesse/shakey stuff.  It tears up the plastic too easy and wants to constantly slide down.  It also doesnt skin hook/T-rig very well.

With the screwed up jig heads you can straighten the worm and skin hook it fairly easily and it stays in place.

Again, just one man's opinion.  ;)

Just remember, rigging a shakey head with a straight worm isn't slways the best rig.  Most of the shakey head experts (Luke Clauson for example) rig the shakey head with a bent worm.  This is key for getting bites on the fall.  It adds much more action to the bait on the fall and slows the fall.  If you are using heavier weights and just dragging, then the straight worm should work fine.   I have resorted to rigging with a bent worm that saves on worms, works in both situations (fall and drag) and you can use cheaper jig heads.

Any reports on the Tru-Tungsten jigheads that Iaconelli endorses? I've used them a little this year so far, they feel great. But my experience w/ this is limited as it seems everytime its getting warm enough to use, it freezes :( and I have to pick up the silver buddy again.

Also, anyone use the shakey head worms by Berkley PowerBait or Gulp!?

Feed the worm on to the hook about a half inch and slide up to the lead head.  Then put a loose bend up to bury the hook point in the worm.  This requires a long shank ball head jig like the spotsticker (or spot remover I think).  This puts more worm material on the hook to prevent tearing.  You can experiment with the amount of bend to get the right wiggle when the shaky head falls.  I usually use 1/8oz max when the fish are hitting on the fall or when I am target fishing.  Anything more kills the wiggle.  Also, using worms with flat bottoms (Yum Houdini) and positioning the flat side down will improve the wiggle.

It's all about the wiggle in the waggle!!!  Same reason senkos catch fish and others....well, don't catch fish as well.

I don't get into the fancy jighead designs... to tell you the truth, I don't really think you need it... I catch just as many fish with the plain jighead that I did with a screw lock head...

I use the jigheads from Provider Tackle... Art make a mushroom style head that is perfect for the presentation... I just slide it up to the barb and texas rig it... I never had any problems and I caught a ton of fish... Those jigheads are the Mush Heads in his line up and he also has a jighead called the Cut Heads with have a flat top for stand up presentations...

To each his own... I stil catch fish on the regular jigheads...
