Title: CHATTERBAIT technique?
Post by: JCOOPER on April 06, 2007, 02:07:53 PM
As stared in a previous post.  I am going to give the chatterbait a go.  The fish in this area are hitting spinnerbaits pretty well, so I am going to go with only the chatterbait.  I figure this might be the only way for me to believe or not believe.  I had to do this same thing to become a believer in the senko originally. My question is though, how do I work the darn thing?  throw it out and simply reel it back in? Any help is appreciated.

Now you're getting into my secret bait area.  Don't be telling everyone about this.  Anyways, let the fish tell you, like anything else.  I have jigged it like a jig, reeled it like a spinnerbait, fished it like a crankbait, but my best bite has been fishing it like a jerkbait, pulling it and then twitching, let it sink a little and repeat.  Hit stuff with it, brush weeds.  It'll catch 'em if they're feeding, and it make em react if they're not.

Jav, looks like the Cats out of the bag with the chatterbait. I fish with 1Javelin last year and I seen him catch alot of good fish on those darn chatterbaits but I still cant get myself to throw them, maybe this year he will keep wackin em and force me to try it.

I'm definatetly going to give it a chance this year, but I'm strugling with the colors. I dont know if i should go white or green pumpkin or black and blue. Guess I'll just have to experiment.

You forgot the color that is kinda like a crawfish.  I used that one last year with a gold blade it it did ok also.

Last year, worked for me better from ice out to mid-June and worked it like a jig. Don't forget to use different trailers and also color the blades with markers, flash is not always the best thing.

Won a opening day tournament with one but had a bulky trailer on it too slow the fall for post-spawn LM bass. Used a 3/8oz Watermelon original chatterbait and all fish took it on the drop.
