Post by: BIGSHOW on April 04, 2014, 12:02:18 PM
Anyone ever see this quirky movie with Mark Zona,Bill Engvall,Billy Ray Cyrus and others. Says it came out in 2008. Kind of weird but had to watch.

I watched it a few years back.  It isn't terribly bad.  Kinda funny and kept my attention...for the most part.

not only have I seen it...I own it, :-[  I had heard that the movie was "interesting" to say the least, so when my wife saw it on-line for $8.00 she ordered it for me.  Its borderline embarrassing to watch, especially for anyone who is a real fan of professional bass fishing.  If you haven't seen it, I would recommend watching it only if its raining outside, you have absolutely nothing else to do, and there is nothing else on TV.  Watching Zona on the movie is about the only highlight.  His showmanship and ability to "act it up" for the camera certainly shines in this movie.

I thought it was pretty good. Only those who truly understand this sport and hobby, will  appreciate the movie. Come on, did you like Will Farrell as Ricky Bobby?

I thought Z was the highlight - playing himself thinking 'yeah, this is a bad movie that doesn't really show the real thing... but I'm having fun!' :D If you look at it as more of a roast of bass tournaments and take into account that it is Bill Engvall comedy influence too, it makes a little more sense the movie turned out that way.

I (hope) don't think it was ever supposed to be a true portrayal... it reminds me of a screwy attempt at making a movie out of a Carl Hiaasen novel. I've read some of his novels including Double Whammy (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ZK58U4/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B003ZK58U4&linkCode=as2&tag=greatlakesbas-20) (http://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=greatlakesbas-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B003ZK58U4) which is a murder possibly related to cheating in bass tournaments in Florida and a bunch of other things that won't surprise you if you've ever read one of his novels - Striptease probably being the most well known one due to the Demi Moore / Burt Reynolds movie.

It also reminds me a little bit of some of the 'bass tournament' antics of Harry and Charlie. I think there has to be some influence from there for sure. I may have even read that somewhere?

I can only watch it once every couple years, and mostly because it is fun watching Z acting like he's acting like he's acting! ;D you can almost see him wanting to wink at the camera to let us all know he knows what we're thinking while watching it. It does give 2 people I know IMDB credits - Z and cameraguy!

I probably wouldn't have watched it if it wasn't for him. When I was flipping through I noticed him. Then I saw it on later and taped it.
