Title: Spring LSC jerkbaits
Post by: Hollada on February 03, 2014, 07:38:37 AM
My tackle addiction has lead me to a variety of new jerkbaits over the winter.  Question for the folks on this forum - what depth do you prefer to fish jerkbaits in the spring?  I now have regular, dd, xd, and staysee pointer as well as a few long bombers, rattling rogues, and various rapalas.

What's your favorite jerkbait, color, and depth?

Mine is any Excalibur or Smithwick jerkbait in any shad color.  As for depth, I like the 4' - 6' suspending jerkbaits.
However, with the way this winter is going, I am afraid that depth isn't going to mater for the opening of catch and release bass season, as my jekrbait will probably just skitter across the thin layer of ice that will still exist.  :D

You've probably heard the story of the guy who was out ice fishing. He found his "hot"spot and began casting a rapala over the ice. A guy who owned a place over looking the lake noticed him, and began a rant about how dumb he was. He continue to watch the guy on the ice until he could stand it no longer. He jumped on his snowmobile and ran out to him. He idled down next to the guy and shouted at him, "What the heck are you doing? You know you can't catch em like that this time of year! Jump on the back you have to troll with that kind of bait!"  Just saying...

I'm a LC Pointer and Staysee fan, myself, though you should always have a few suspending Rogue's in the box.  My personal favorite colors for clear water are - in order - Pearl Ayu,  Ghost Minnow, Chartreuse Shad, Original Wakasagi and Rootbeer Green.  I usually go to the Smithwick Rogue (blue back or black back) when I want to throw a chrome bait with a lot of flash.
