i had some christmas money in my pocket and the extreme rods were on sale for 79.99 and free shipping so i ordered a 7.6 mdhvy. i plan on using p-line cxx in 12 lb , would i need a high speed reel for throwing these or would a 6.4-1 be ok? thanks..Karol
mostly throwing swim jigs
If you plan on throwing mostly swim jigs I would use a high speed reel. When fishing around weeds and swimming the jig in these areas it will help you keep it swimming up and above the vegetation. You can always slow down if the jig will swim through the weeds. I have 3 jig rods, my swimjigs setup has a 7:1.1 and my others have the medium speed for football jigs and finese jigs
I like the bps, extreme rods. As far as a reel, 6.4.1 or 7.1.1 will work. What ever you feel comfortable with. Having confidence in your reel. Is part of the battle.
For me
I'd rather have the 6.4 for the reason
To much coffee or the excitement the tendency is to over fish a moving bait
I find it's harder to slow down, rather then go faster.
I like the 7.1 reels for jigs
Your moving the bait with the rod, the high speed is just to get them back to the boat as fast as you can
and get them back out there
But both will work
